"Wish You Were Here"

For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.

Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

< img src="http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/daseal2.jpg" alt="Army Logo" width="151" height="150" >

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Our broadband went down a little after 9 & didn't come on until just a bit ago. I was in ANGUISH! I wanted to share this day with my freeper friends.

As long as my work is done and I look like I am hard at work to my co-workers (as in not playing alchemy at zone.com) my boss doesn't say anything about my FReeping. I am lucky.

And thank you for the compliment

But, hands down, the BEST moment was the instant those tanks drove into Firdos Square...on the webcam!

I actually missed that! Where can I see it?

"When Shep was doing his visit with Rick last night he mentioned how popular the show was. He commented that when they thought of doing this chat format, that they didn't think it would catch on, but their ratings from the night before (an 11pm east cost start, 8pm west coast) was 5.3. 5.3 at that time of night, WOW.

Anyway, I adore their chat time. I feel like I truly learn more about the spirit of the soldiers and what is happening in that 2 hour slot, than the other 22 hours."

I have *loved* this segment and the late-night (Pacific Time) coverage in general. I didn't get to bed till 1:00 a.m. PDT Sunday as I was so engrossed in watching Greg Kelly on Saddam's "front lawn," the Saddam statue on the horse being blown up, and of course the split screen of Baghdad Bob and the army that wasn't there.

When I went to bed last night it was morning in Baghdad and Rick was with Marines walking up and down the streets, trying to draw out snipers. So it was quite amazing to get up this morning and see the people of Baghdad joyously interacting with the troops and putting the chain around that statue!!

U.S. Army Sgt. John Beck from Miami, Fla. is welcomed by residents of Baghdad...

That look on his face kinda reminds me of Dr. Venkman in the original 'Ghostbusters'...

I wouldn't have even known about Chicken Boy w/o FR since I don't watch that station...he was really something else. Looked awfully silly compared to Kelly, Leventhal, North, Arnot, Bloom, et al.

"I never thought I'd get to like Blair but I have a lot of respect for him now."

I used to think Blair was a smarmy clinton type, the more so as he is from the Labour Party.

I'm always happy to admit when I'm wrong, and boy, was I wrong. This man could have cared less about polls, put his career on the line for principle.

An Iraqi raises her arms in celebration as US tanks roll into the heart of the Iraqi capital. US troops who rolled into the very heart of Baghdad aboard tanks voiced their surprise at the warm welcome extended to them by ordinary Iraqis after a tough fight.(AFP/Karim Sahib)

An Iraqi man throws stones at a statue of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) as it falls in central Baghdad April 9, 2003. U.S. troops pulled down a 20-foothigh statue of Saddam and Iraqis danced on it in contempt for the man who ruled them with an iron grip for 24 years. (Goran Tomasevic/Reuters)
