Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Back from class. What an amazing day. I'm so freakin tired it's not even funny. I got to bed around 3:30am Pacific and got a phone call telling me to wake up when the tanks rolled into the circle. The regime got THUNDERSTRUCK.

Isn't that great?!? I saw all these people on the webcam running down the street and I thought something was wrong. My friend IM'd me and said, "Oh my God! There is someone riding Saddams head down the street!"

Guess that reporter was sleeping in this morning and missed the throngs of people trying to destroy it on their own (sledgehammer man comes to mind). IDIOTS all of them. Geez.
To: retrokitten
First time I saw Rummy start to show that side. BTW, Like the tag name:-)

Before addressing families of those who lost loved ones and telling them they had died in a just and noble cause Rummy quoted George Washington and referred to him as the leader of OUR liberation.

"Well, I am glad that Chater told us about the oppression he endured while trying to report with his "minders" hovering around and it is good that he managed to stay in Baghdad so that he could report freely as he did today"
That is the point - they can have minders and be threatened - but where is the outcry??? or the lead-in - "now we bring in our reporter from the field - with an Iraqi gun to his head"

I am almost sure Rumsfeld started to get choked up when he spoke of the deceased soldiers who "made it possible". Did you catch that? Yes - I definitely felt got that too.

Welcome back. I'm on adrenaline. I'm sure tonight will be crash time.

''spatula city'' was a commercial on UHF by Weird Al. Rush often plays the commercial on his web site during comercial breaks.
Yes, I listen to Rush and have heard that commercial. It is great!

Rummy's suggestion that the FREE Iraqi people talk to the reporters is a stroke of genius. I imagine their ears will blister. Unfortunately, some may hunt up those who want to gripe about the 'invaders', but some of the truth will come out...and it's about time.
To: mwl1
A retired general by the name of Joulwan came on ABC moments later and gave Jennings hell for using the term and treating our soldiers with casualness bordering on contempt. Thank Goodness someone gave it to Jennings
I'm hearing shots and ALOT of Booms in the background of the NTV cam
