"Wish You Were Here"

For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.

Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Paris has some great architecture but it is pretty dirty. Many areas are filthy. It was a disappointment.

You describe Patriotism, a patriotism that defends freedom, and that´s how I feel, too. Freedom may be defined different (e.g. many of you believe that Germany is not a country of free speech because we prohibit Nazi symbols and propaganda), but basically we mean and want the same. That´s why we - you and I - are united in our minds not only on that day, and that is, why I regulary post here since 4 months.

evil does not die well. I saw a man in a black shirt giving a flower to a marine. I hope he's had him smallpox, anthrax vaccines. Nothing will surprise me in the coming days as the last shrieks of evil are extinguished.

Their entourage was fired on several days ago while heading toward Syria. Does that mean SH left Baghdad several days ago or that he is currently stowed away in an EMPTY building?

MSNBC cam. Richard saying I can not see the building, I do not know what it is.

I'm sorry if that is the ----University, I do not know.

Does it make a difference if it is the Iraqis or the Americans? No I do not think it makes a difference.

[The DUmmies say] every Iraqi giving the thumbs-up sign is actually flipping off America because a thumbs-up is actually the Arab version of "the finger"

That's the racist BS from the left that really pisses me off. They don't believe the Iraqi people are smart enough to learn an 'American' salute that would be instantly understood by the troops...so as to salute us in our own idiom.

If we were liberated by people who's 'thumbs up' is to make giant wagging moose horns with both hands on my head, then when they rolled into my town, I'd be making giant wagging moose horns with my hands, no matter how strange it seemed to American eyes.

I have been watching this on Fox and also directing a plumber on which repairs I will be able to afford today (new faucet and drain in the bathroom).

Tank or someting similar now up near the statue and they have a heavy cable around it. Announcement over mosque loudspeaker to step back and be careful. LOL!

Sky news Bag Cam - Iraqi boy (11 y.o.) hands flowers to US Marines. Showing split-screen of Ministry of Finance burning. Reports of sniping spread across Baghdad; reports of looting of official offices. Coalition now reporting air supremacy over all Iraq. Gunfire in square, crowd dispersing, Marines back in their tanks.
