Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!
Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...
these people are more concerned about THEMSELVES
than anything, anyone, or any outcome we can imagine. The fact that we don't share their unabashed devotion to themselves is a matter of great wonderment to them.
Now, give me a tough one.
:)
I miss Art Bell, his replacement is almost never credible, Art bordered on credibility some of the time:)
Someone posted on a different thread...how could these reporters know if there was or was not firing coming from the hotel...there was likely lots of intermittant gunfire from all around, how can they be so positive there was none coming from the hotel?
With backpacks.
Satchel charges for the journalists?
--------------------------
Shep:
None of the patriotic Fox fans I know are saying "Screw those journalists."
We're all sad they were hit. We honor their commitment to bring us the news. We know the ones in the Palestinian Hotel have "minders."
What we're saying is, "It's not the biggest story of the war!"
You've told us about it. Plenty of times. Now move on and get back to being the Fox News Channel we've made number one in cable news. Those journalists are not bigger news than the latest attempt on Saddam, or the last brave Marine killed in combat. Do you know his or her name? Have you told us fifty times, or a hundred?
Come on, guys -- you're doing a great job. But the brave journalists bringing us the story are not the story itself, even when some of them get killed.
I am tired of stories on how media members are doing, how they are operating, followed by the media criticism stories. As Howlin noted earlier, they are burying the Iraqi Children's Jail story because they need to use up the air time to discuss 3 media members losing their lives.
"Chicken" Rick Engle today used up his entire broadcast pretty much on the reporter story and calling the military liars.
I would love more analysis on the arab street, the jihadists entering Iraq, the post war plan for governance, what is going on in Jordan, and the West Bank...
Candlelight vigil is much more important though.
And the audience loudly BOOED when their name came up.
On that note, I don't think it's right for the press to bitch about that building getting hit. That's just as wrong, and as Shep and the DOD have pointed out, it's a war zone, and military officials are in that building.
But, we must not stray way from the entire context of that statement Shep made and why he made it.
