Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I was just telling my husband the very same thing--I don't know how he does it, either!
Some of these questions by these folks are unbelievable!!

Listen to Fox News' Greg Kelly. He's not impressed with the decor in Saddam's palaces, although he did sound envious of the guys in the better palace up the road from him.
To: cajungirl
I doubt that sanctions work but that is another story. Indeed, I agree, and indeed, it's a whole 'nother thread.

It isn't so much that they are wanting things of value, but that they want symbolic representations--"I helped take Saddam down and I took ____ from him." It is no less symbolic than those who took pieces of the Berlin Wall when it came tumbling down. It is a symbol of liberation. Heck, they just want something to put on EBAY!!! LOL

Watch for this:
In the video of the guy beating the picture of Saddam's face with his shoe, watch the heavyset guy with the white robe and red/white "towel". He makes a pretty suggestive gesture of what he'd like to do to Saddam. It's funny to watch.

IF the idiotic four (france, germany, russia, china) had STAYED WITH THE PROGRAM and enforced the sanctions, Saadumb would likely have been broken long, long ago. In the long run, this is the best outcome. I prefer a useless UN -- not a big fan of central government, certainly not on a global scale.
FWIW, the idiotic four also queered chances at inspections, because they backed off the credible use of force. One cannot EVER back down from a credible threat of force, lest the threat lose credibility forever after.

AWWW,,it was it object des arte,,he is going to brighten up his living room with it, a present for his wife. Makes me want to cry, remembering the first tacky present my hubby gave to me. Martha Stewart needs to be sent to Iraq to do penance and spruce up the place.
To: cajungirl
I think that cabinet was an old fridge. It looked like he was dragging it upside down by the coils. Two or three fridges were taken away from that one place.

That "sanctions did this" argument is going to be hard for them to hide behind in light of all those warehouses we are finding stuffed with undistributed food, and in light of the sheer dollars people will realize that Saddam spent on those palaces.

(no disrespect meant to the forces there, obvious it's still "hot" in there, I pray for their safety, but today is day of...levity :p)

This is sort of low budget looting on the fly.
The more professional and experienced looters undoubtedly already grabbed whatever "good stuff" existed in their offices.
