Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

David Lee Miller just cracked a joke
I didn't catch everything he said, but I thought he also said:
journalists in Bagdad no longer had to have minders.

Lindsey is now asking a producer if it is true that crowds in Saddam City are actually chanting and throwing flowers at US troops.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported yesterday that US Marines have secured a city south of Baghdad Al-Tuwaitha where a nexus of underground labs, warehouses and bomb-proof offices extends beneath a site owned by the Iraqi Atomic Energy Agency.
Around the city, Iraqis ventured out into the streets, greeting U.S. troops with smiles, waves or a thumbs-up. Hundreds of Iraqis cheered U.S. troops in Saddam City, a poor neighborhood in northeast Baghdad.
"Thank you, thank you, Mr. Bush!" one shouted.
On a Baghdad street, a white-haired man held up a poster of Saddam and beat it with his shoe. A younger man spat on the portrait, and several others launched kicks at the face of the Iraqi president.
"Come see, this is freedom. This is the criminal, this is the infidel," he said. "This is the destiny of every traitor. He killed millions of us."
"We are with the U.S.!" said one man, carrying a rifle with one hand.

Who was that woman? "Lyn" something... She spun _everything_ as far to the left and as negatively as she could. Is she on the DNC's staff?

DUh has been really funny the past several days. I can't stand going over there for long because I find it so hard to navigate, and I am never able to rediscover a thread I posted to just hours before over there.
What I can say is that they have really been rather abashed by the last few days' events, though.

Any choice snippets of amusing wilfull blindness? ;-) Not really. About 50% of them seem to be intentionally talking about anything else they can think of to pretend Iraq doesn't exist, 25% think every picture coming out of Iraq has been staged the The Bush Junta, and 25% have just given up.

Lara on NTV.
Asking New York if they are seeing people cheering troops. I wonder what she will say on air.

They are doing an Orwellian about-face and actually deploring anarchy and vandalism for a change.
