NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Country singer Toby Keith feels vindicated by the three video awards he won for his hawkish anthem "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue (The Angry American)."
"The night we had tonight vindicates me for the controversy from that song," said Keith, who won video of the year, cocky video and best male video for the song during Country Music Television's 2003 Flameworthy Video Music Awards on Monday.

But America doesn't like patriotic songs. Susan Sarandon, The VICHY CHICKS, etc. all said so. </sarcasm off.

Gill: Maines Has Been Bashed Enough
04/08/2003
Vince Gill told reporters backstage at the CMT Flameworthy 2003 Video Music Awards that its time to forgive Natalie Maines for her remarks about President Bush during the Dixie Chicks London concert on March 10. Theres political leaders that have said a lot worse things about George Bush than Natalie did and nobody rips [them] for it, Gill said. I feel like shes been bashed enough. If she made a mistake, or if she feels that way, its past the point. Theyll have to deal with the consequences that come from that.
I cant jump into the fray to say I think this persons wrong and this persons right, because I think being decent and kind and forgiving and all those things are much better things to possess than being right.

Comedian Brett Butler drew some boos when she mentioned the Dixie Chicks.
LOL! It's looking like that little gesture of Natalie's will go down in music history as one of the great career-killing moves, like Jerry Lee Lewis's marriage to his thirteen year old cousin....

It's looking like that little gesture of Natalie's will go down in music history as one of the great career-killing moves, like Jerry Lee Lewis's marriage to his thirteen year old cousin.... Actually, it's much worse. Remember, the Country & Western audience is generally very conservative politically, and Maines' statement pretty much killed her fan base. This is unlike rock-and-roll and rap fans, which are much more liberal politically.

Natalie's "little gesture" was the last straw in her career.
Comparing her schtick to a politician is apples and oranges.
Perhaps too many awards went to her head, and she forgot us dumb C&W fans have a rudimentary knowledge of international relations.Or perhaps she is just too stupid to know about the reach of the internet.
She is still spouting off the same, lame, lethal to a C&W artists, anti-american trash talk.
Of all the segmented groups of music fans, she has alienated the one group with no short term memory loss problem.
The group that happened to be her "base".
Make that "was her base".
As far as most C&W fans are concerned, she is the new Jane Fonda wannabe in a war that is not VietNam.I look forward to protesting her appearance in Tampa, next month, if she is not cancelled.

Way to go Toby. And I'm glad Martina picked up a nod, too.

I've noticed Natalie has been getting a lot of support from leftist comedians, as I've observed on SNL and The Daily Show. Unfortunately for her, those people and their fans don't buy a lot of country albums and will forget about her next week.

I am so burned-out on the Dixie Cups. I read on another thread that Fatalie told some magazine or other that the more criticism she received, the prouder she became of her anti-Bush statement. What a fat snot.

Gill better ease up or I'll start looking for the "next best thing". Maines has a track record of left wing tripe from the Bush bashing, to Toby Keith bashing to Peta.

My wife and I were there. At EVERY mention of the chix, there was a casscade of boos that rivals that of your favorite team getting the royal shaft from the refs. If they had shown up, the stage used for the pre-show concert in front of the Gaylord Center would have been used as a gallows. After watchin a replay, the boos sounded watered down, not as intense. Toby was vindicated. At the end of "Courtesy...", he threw his guitar down and broke it. I sure hope they took it across the street and put it in the Country Music Hall of Fame. It would be fitting. As far as the rest of the evening, it was great. The only reason Pamela Anderson was there was because of Kid Rock. The only reason Sheryl Crow was there was Kid Rock. Tim and Faith were Tim and Faith. Martina, Shania, Allyson, Terri Clark, are so much more beautiful in person than on album covers. We saw them come in on the red carpet and was about three feet away so we got a good look at them. Toby Keith, Darryl Worley, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Rascall Flatts, etc. were their usual good selves. A good time was had by all (except the loosers).
