Bush: 'We are committed to the Road Map'

By THE JERUSALEM POST INTERNET STAFF

President George W. Bush said Tuesday that the US and Britain "are committed to the Road Map toward peace."

Speaking at a joint news conference with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland, Bush added: "Now this process must be carried forward."

Moments earlier Blair also reaffirmed Britain's commitment to the plan, which calls for achieving Palestinian statehood by 2005.

"It's a hopeful time. I believe we can make progress," Bush said.

Bush further said he is pleased with the designated Palestinian premier Mahmoud Abbas.

Regarding "empty Palestine" ...

Regarding quotation marks: when they're used to misprepresent another's position, they become a straw man. Revisionists generally don't stop there, however. In this case, the straw man sets up a fallacy of false distinction. The Turkish census you cite confirms that Palestine was "a Land virtually laid waste with little population."

bviously the land was capable of holding many more people, because it has around 8 million+ today. That does not mean it was an uninhabited waste.

The land holds many more people today than 100 or 150 years ago, largely because of the efforts of legal Jewish immigrants who reclaimed it.

The vast blooming of the population from an influx of both Arabs and Jews was a self-feeding phenomena. As more and more people moved into Palestine, bringing more and more money and talent, the economy increased ever faster requiring more and more laborers, thus bringing in more settlers of both ethnicities. There was no sinister plot to feed Arabs into the territory.

As the Jews reclaimed the land, they hired Arab immigrants from outlying areas to work on it. The plot becomes sinister when the pretense is made that these migrants had long-standing Historical ties to the Levant, and that they comprised an indigenous people with a legitimate national identity. These are outright lies which form the basis for the controversy surrounding Israel to this day.

Again, I missed where the Germans and Poles in these areas had started a war of agression. The Nazi German government? Yes. The people? No.

You're splitting hairs. Governments enforce borders and start wars. When they lose, borders change.

I don't think there is any point in discussing anythign with your further. You and the other clowns who think that trans-Jordan is "Noble Jewish Land" because some Jews lived there 2000 years ago are welcome to come back to your rubber rooms anytime.

There is a longer continuous Jewish resence in what we now know as Israel than there is for any other people, but that's just Historical fact, which is, to be sure, irrelevant in conversations where ad hominems have currency.

Will the U.S. have any role in this war? If so, how?

Acts of war are committed against Israel every week. They can respond any time, but it would be better for them, and for us, to wait until at least Iran and Syria have taken their turns in the War on Terror.

Israel shares our Western values and is an ally of the United States; it is in our national interest that our allies prevail when defending themselves against wars of aggression. We ought to insure that they have the necessary resources, however, I wouldn't commit American troops unless we are also attacked.

Where would you deport them to?

Perhaps into the Sinai, where they migh wander for forty years. It was good enough for the Jews. I really don't care. Anywhere. Parachute them into France, perhaps. For if you regard terrorists as an "ethinic" group, or that you don't like it that Isarael is the Jewish state, is really just tough. How very vexing for you and any and everyone else who doesn't like it.

It is fine for me to call Israel a Jewish state, as long as those that do so are comfortable with the United States being called a Christian nation.

There simply appears to be a lot of intolerance for people with a Jewish background. Prayer was removed from public schools as a result of a Supreme Court decision brought forward by a Jew from New York, "under God" has been removed from the Pledge as a result of a man that celebrates Passover and other Jewish holidays with his family, and two Jewish lawmakers protested a Christian minister using the name Jesus in a prayer and as a result the minister was prevented from entering the Maryland state legislature by the Seargeant-at- Arms.

Despite these efforts, I think we can all agree Israel is a Jewish state and America is a Christian nation.

The continuous German presence in Bohemia and Silesia, Hungarians in Transylvania, and Poles in Galacia, from time immemorial doesn't deter you from suggesting that they got their just deserts being deported from there.

Yes, Jews have lived in Hebron for ages. It has not been anywhere near majority Jewish for ages either. I find the reasoning difficult to follow that permits you to think it is okay to subjugate hundreds of thousands of Arabs because a few hundred Jews live near them.

Correct, we live in an imperfect world. War sucks, but sometimes it's the best solution to intractable problems.

"Few hundred?" Funny.

The land was part of the Ottoman Empire. The Turks lost a war and lost the land. This happens; it's called History.

The Jews have made every effort to live in peace with the Arabs. The Arabs have made every effort to wipe out the Jews. This is relevant. These atrocities count in the judgment of History. The "palestinian" Arabs long ago lost any moral claim, ongoing efforts to ignore their genocidal culture notwithstanding.

The real peoblem is that the Palestinians have been indoctrinated into thinking the Law of Return is an inviolable precondition to "peace", and that demographics and time is on their side.

I , for one, believe nothing short of intense isolation and pressure will make them change their political posture. Therefore, the Israelis will have to keep their occupation going indefinitely, with the hope that thier stranglehold will force Palestinians to emigrate in larger numbers than they have been procreating (tough to imagine).

I'll call America the world's only Judeo-Christian nation.

Thanks.

Since proportionally there are more Muslim citizens of Israel than there are Jewish citizens of the United States, as long as you are comfortable describing Israel as a Muslim-Jewish state, I'll be happy to describe America as a Judeo-Christian nation. You can't have it both ways.

Dream on. Israel was not founded on terrorism any more than the United States was.

Israel is under attack by an Islamic Jihad which comes with Islamic terrorism, suicide bombings, attacks on civilians etc.... Go look up the word Jihad if you must.

ACtually, the British began to reduce Jewish immigration in the late 1920's.
Between 1890 and 1945, more Arabs than Jews immigrated.

Aha! So in your view the criminality of a government authorizes the victorious parties in a war to commit atrocities against the losing civilian population? Care to explain how this differs from the ideology of the Nazis?

1. There are differences between relocation and mass murder and genocide.
2. All wars hurt populations.

When these atrocities were occurring in 1946-1948, the Pope condemned them as a "Crime against humanity without parallel in history." And its true. There has never been another time, at least in European history when over 20,000,000 people (Germans, Poles, Balts, and Hungarians) were forcibly uprooted from their homes, all of their landmarks defaced or destroyed and 5,000,000 of them killed, with nearly all the women raped.
I don't support rape or murder, but relocation can create more stable borders.

PFAW was founded by Norman Lear. Norman Lear is Jewish. PFAW is second only to the ACLU in it's attack on Christianity in America. Norman Lear has had a close association with the ACLU, sitting on the board.

Jewish Center of the Hamptons

Thanks for the heads up on the People for the American Way. It's clear they really hate the values that made this country what it is today. The trend that is showing up here that started with a Supreme Court decision to ban prayer from school, removing God from the Pledge, and the actions of People for the American Way are very disturbing.

Do you have any explanation?
