Bush: 'We are committed to the Road Map'
By THE JERUSALEM POST INTERNET STAFF
President George W. Bush said Tuesday that the US and Britain "are committed to the Road Map toward peace."
Speaking at a joint news conference with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland, Bush added: "Now this process must be carried forward."
Moments earlier Blair also reaffirmed Britain's commitment to the plan, which calls for achieving Palestinian statehood by 2005.
"It's a hopeful time. I believe we can make progress," Bush said.
Bush further said he is pleased with the designated Palestinian premier Mahmoud Abbas.
This morning, the Jerusalem Post reports that Hizbollah opened fire on Northern Israel.
Furthermore, your posts remind me of this saying, "You strain at a gnat and swallow a camel."
No, the PA does not have tanks, artillery pieces, fight jets... but their allies, who are itching for a fight, do.
I did nothing. I wasn't alive.
No one was slamming America, so withdraw your claws.
RobfromGa was stating a fact, as was Asher, as was I.
The Allies knew about the Holocaust long before WWII and chose to do nothing.
They fought and won WWII... the soldiers were hero. They liberated the camps.
There is no condemnation implied. But, to the Allies, the Jews were not worth war. Heck, to the British, they were not worth upsetting the Arabs. That is why there was a White Paper of 1939.
What is it about you liberal dweebs that you dredge up the worst thoughts from the sinkhole of your souls and then claim that the person you are talking to thought it?!
I never, ever have begun to think of killing people based on their race and I live in a land that has 15 or so terrorist attacks A DAY In fact, I have Arab friends over here. So take your slime and shove it. If I live under such stress and am not a bigot, WHAT THE HECK IS YOUR EXCUSE?
Besides, in many public "Palestinian" polls, the ratio of people that back suicide bombing of Jews and Americans is over 75%, and over 60% back it against women and children.
Now you do the math. 60% of 3.5 million people comes out to over TWO MILLION TERRORISTS! That is a heck of a lot of cold blooded killers, all concentrated in an area the size of greater Los Angeles!!!
Now Just pretend you have a few million terrorists in your backyard, willing to blow their own children up just to kill yours. What would you propose to solve this little problem?
Give them a Nation?
Most Palestinian apologists have no understanding of the history of the region, or the political goals of the Palestinians.
The PLO was organized in 1964 - 3 years before the Six Day War - to wipe out the Jewish population in "occupied territory". Anyone who can read and comprehend understands that the PLO was talking about Israel proper.
That political goal has never changed. Arafat and his top aides make no secret that they will use any territory Israel will retreat from to launch attacks against Israel proper.
Yet, the terror is excused. Yet, the violence is apologized for.
There is nothing heoric about a suicide bomber, or a terrorist. They are murderers.
I wanted the documentary One Day In September about the Olympic massacre. The director interviewed one of the terrorists. The terrorist was crowing how he went into the Olympic village to avenge the plight of the Palestinians. He talked about his courage. How this lowly Palestinian was going to strike out at mighty Israel.
Let's see... 8 armed terrorists with bagfuls of grenades and machine guns, break in and hold captive 11 sleeping, unarmed Israeli athletes.
And the Arabs think the terrorists are brave!
It is the epitome of cowardice. Just like in a fight, when two guys hold a guy while another guy beat him senseless.
Furthermore, the terrorist then begins to bemoan the fact that he has to live in hiding because the Israelis were still looking for him. It made him feel like an animal.
My reaction was, "you are an animal."
The Palestinians are not heros. They are not freedom fighters. They are not liberators.
They murder kindergartners in their class rooms, infants in their carriages, students in their schools.
They are murderers, thugs, and common criminals who do not deserve a state. They deserve a trial, a jail cell, and the death sentence.
rant off!
You have posted this same slam over and over again...
I never said that the allies were completely to blame. I never said that we lit the ovens ourselves.
And if this is how you plan to conduct yourself on future threads... then I pity anyone who ever chooses to engage you in debate... because you don't know how.
You are unable to grasp this simplest of arguments, you are unable to put together a coherent argument... you accuse, you name-call, you twist words.
We are finished... I would rather debate a 5 year old. At least with a 5 year old, I have some hope that they will be able to follow a conversation without twisting it to meet some warped agenda.
Ummm .... no. Stalin's war machine rolled through with a campaign of mass terror against civilians, causing half the population to flee. The rest were then forcibly expelled after the war.
As to the Poles from L'viv (L'vov if you will), and the rest of the eastern territories, they certainly in no way could be called "agressors", yet they too were expelled from their homes by the millions by Stalin (those lucky enough not to end up in the Gulag) and forcibly hearded off to new living arrangements. These where by no means the only victims of Stalin's campaign of this sort, as the kalmyks, Volga Germans, Ukranians, Crimean Tartars and others could tell you.
Giving the Arabs ever more Israeli land rewards their terror, and encourages more of the same.
Perhaps I missed the day when any Israeli land was ever given to an Arab??? Are you referring to the Sinai Peninsula? Its certainly a novel theory of Israeli land that would include that territory.
While certainly many areas were somewhat desolate (especially the Negev and the areas south and west of Jerusalem and Hebron), its difficult to term the rest of the area the same way without willfully ignoring the facts.
The Turkish Census from around the turn of the century found around 55,000 dwellings present in the Sanjaks which now constitute Israel/Palestine. These were located within many hundreds of settled villages and towns. Most major towns like Jaffa, Acre, Hebron, Nabulus, etc. had about 10,000 inhabitants. Jerusalem was the leading city with around 40,000 inhabitants. The total area of what was then termed Palestine was around 10,000 square miles, with the 1909 Encyclopedia Britannica estimating a population of around 650,000 circa 1900, or 65 people per square mile. I believe about 5% of this popualtion would have consisted of Jews at that time. The overhwelming majority of the native Arabs at that time were Christians, as also in Lebanon and the Syrian littoral.
If you do the math each settlement (a village or town), when you exclude the wastes of the Negev Desert, had an area of about 10 square miles about it, putting the distance between them at approximately 3 miles. This is a density of settlement comparable to most parts of the American midwest.
Obviously the land was capable of holding many more people, because it has around 8 million+ today. That does not mean it was an uninhabited waste.
The vast blooming of the population from an influx of both Arabs and Jews was a self-feeding phenomena. As more and more people moved into Palestine, bringing more and more money and talent, the economy increased ever faster requiring more and more laborers, thus bringing in more settlers of both ethnicities. There was no sinister plot to feed Arabs into the territory.
Hmmm, How about the Hebron Hills? How about Judea? Bethlehem? (Means house of bread in Hebrew).
Clue time...
I don't blame the Israeli's for maintaining overwhelmign force given the history of Arab treachery, but lets not pretend the Palestinians are "equal" in power.
And to think that the Palestinians are David to Israel's Goliath is not understanding the reality on the ground.
To think that a lowly rock thrower would go up against the force of the Israeli army is ludicrous.
If Israel would ever "declare war" on the Palestinians, then Israel would find herself opposing the Arab world, who have never stopped their aim of genocide.
Read Arab newspapers. Listen to Arab mullahs and imans.
Listen to the state sponsored radio.
The Palestinians have one purpose... to continue the war of genocide that the Arabs started in 1947.
To think that Syria, Hizbollah, Egypt, and Iran would not come to the aid of the Palestinians is just as foolhardy.
Would Israel still win. Absolutely. Because the Arabs aren't able to win wars.
Aha! So in your view the criminality of a government authorizes the victorious parties in a war to commit atrocities against the losing civilian population? Care to explain how this differs from the ideology of the Nazis?
When these atrocities were occurring in 1946-1948, the Pope condemned them as a "Crime against humanity without parallel in history." And its true. There has never been another time, at least in European history when over 20,000,000 people (Germans, Poles, Balts, and Hungarians) were forcibly uprooted from their homes, all of their landmarks defaced or destroyed and 5,000,000 of them killed, with nearly all the women raped.
Where are your grandparents from?
My grandparents are from Indiana (paternal grandmother), Ohio (paternal grandfather), upstate New York (maternal grandfather), and Florida (maternal grandmother). All of my family, save two immigrants from around the time of the Civil War (one from Norway, one from Switzerland), have been in this country since the 1750's. The first came over in 1625.
If you are referring to my ethnic origins, my paternal line is 100% Swiss German from the Alpine region and its foothills, mostly Canton Bern, my maternal line is 75% English/Norman mostly from Gloucestershire, Yorkshire, Wessex, and East Anglia and 25% Norwegian from the area near Oslo.
Maybe if it included a land swap as well; part of the Gallilee with its Arab villages for part of the uninhabited West Bank.
In any event, you point is well taken but reasonable alternatives to a withdrawl of some sort are scarce
Perhaps I missed the history where it was exposed the Palestinians were not really a people, and had not spent the past 1500 years worshipping in the Church of the Nativity, the Dome of the Rock, and other ancient Churches and Mosques throughout Israel/Palestine. I suppose it was just all European and Arab tourists in the region on holiday?
Why not enlighten me on their non-peoplehood?
