ELEANOR CLIFT: THOU PROTEST TOO MUCH
The Iconoclast ^ | April 7, 2003 | Paul Walfield

Posted on 04/07/2003 5:00:11 PM PDT by BurkesLaw

Eleanor Clift says she is a loyal American. So do a lot of people lately. Trouble is, why?

Americans who protest against a war that is purportedly in the national interest of America to wage, may have a reason to explain why they are against it, but not necessarily their patriotism.

On the other hand, when as in the case of dear Eleanor, she also includes, in her declaration of loving America, a jab at America's "evil" past, maybe just maybe, she cannot explain how that bolsters her contention of her patriotism.

On cable news the other night, there came a debate which started out, at least for the first sentence, to be about the virtues or evils of America's war in Iraq. Finding that it is hard to argue with success, liberal columnist and "journalist," Eleanor Clift, decided to do what most people on the left who hate America do, she changed the subject and made things up.

Eleanor quickly dismissed any notion that the war will free the Iraqi people from a ruthless dictator. And true to the liberals' contempt for ordinary people everywhere, she ignored any possibility that Iraq's population might embrace freedom.

Instead, Clift quickly switched to the topic of post war Iraq and America's position as the arbiter of a Saddam-free Iraq. And according to Eleanor, America has no right to be in charge of Iraq following hostilities. Only the United Nations has that right.

Obviously, for activists of the left, such as Eleanor Clift, anything that puts America in a leadership role (as well as the emerging role of the U.S. as the world's only superpower) is bad .

One can only wonder about the brain processes which someone who claims to love America has to go through to rationalize the need for a necessary diminution of America's standing in the world, the end to America's position as sole superpower, and the notion that America has no legitimacy to determine the peace that follows a war that she wins....

Clift is a sorry excuse for a human being much less a "loyal American." The only thing worse than looking at Clift is hearing her mouth. I used to watch the McLaughlin Group but since John Mclaughlin has become a pacifist I have given the Group up for Lent.

Has anyone else noticed how she wears makeup and lipstick now? We have been watching FNC for a LONG time and don't ever remember seeing her all fixed up like that. However, it doesn't do much for her becuase you have to be beautiful from the inside out and she is not. She is hateful and downright nasty.

"Can't stand the woman. Soon as I see she's a guest on a program, I turn the channel."

I second that. Clift is one of the most annoying people on TV. I'd rather be force-fed hard-boiled eggs and have to watch Anna Nicole all day.

Years ago, I used to watch the McLaughlin Group. I stopped because she and her Clinton shilling basically took over. I could not see the sense of anything the woman had to say. Haven't watched the show in at least 8 years, my Sunday mornings much more delightful as a result. She is like nails screeching across a blackboard.

Her voice is like a cat and chalk scratching a blackboard simultaneously.

Let it be said that: Eleanor Clift is a giant finger nail, and America is her blackboard...

Eleanor Clift is a despicable MARXIST plain and simple.

Just like her girlfriend the equally despicable Hillary.

A Pox upon them both.

"Eleanor Clift is what is left on your shoe after a walk through an inner-city alley".
No. Eleanor Clift is what is left on the floor after what has been spilled has been wiped up. (originally from John Updike, describing the complexion of a woman in one of his stories)

Wasn't aware of Updike's version of women's footware analogy, but I do like it.

Eleanor's story, however, is less a complexion thread than a compromised tread.

I think he just seems that way because he's against the war (he probably talks to Pat too much). I believe he's just as conservative otherwise, as you'll see when the Iraq thing is over.

My view of America: The best and perhaps last "earthly" hope of mankind to once and for all throw off the shackles of injustice, slavery, and tyranny.

Eleanor Clift's view of America: Everything that is wrong with the world is America's fault.

Who you gonna believe, the U.N.? I'll be damned.

it's amazing how many former catholic seminarians, coelho, bonoir, mclaughlin, all profess the pacifist-liberal creed as a catholic, it is impossible for me to count a handful of former seminarians/priest who are conservative.

h'mmm, that sure makes our masses sound like Iraq's masses -- you know, the ones who get their news from Baghdad Bob!

I can't stand her either -- her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. But if she's on McGlaughlin Group -- GAME ON! I love it when she's on there w/ Buchanan (not sure if it happens anymore -- they both used to be on there regularly), but even if Pat isn't on, McGlaughlin never misses a chance to skewer her. My favorite is when he says something like "On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being total, complete implosion, and 10 being metaphysical perfection, how does rank?" So many times I've heard Eleanor say something like "He gets a 2...yadda yadda yadda." And when she's through blowing hot air, McGlaughlin comes in with a resounding "WRONG!!" and then he goes on to explain how she is wrong, and concludes with "BYE BYE!" LOVE IT!

She musta looked similar to Paul Baglia (sp?) on election night when Bush won. Haha - I loved seeing him get all worked up over losing the White House.

Really? I always thought McGlaughlin was more right-leaning. Was I mistaken?
