NEAR BAGHDAD, April 7 (AFP) - US Marines in Iraq have discovered bomb-making facilities at a facility described as a training camp operated by the a faction of the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), a military spokesman said Monday.
Bomb-making facilities, chemicals, mortars, gas masks and AK-47s were found inside the 20-building complex to the east of Baghdad, said Public Affairs Officer Corporal John Hoellwarth.
The complex, which was the size of a battalion headquarters, featured pictures of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, PLF faction leader Abu Abbas and the PLF's flag, Hoellwarth added.
Other photos included pictures of Abu Abbas posing with a brigadier general from Saddam's Republican Guard inside the camp.
Boxes of documents with PLF letterheads were also seized.
Stores of fresh food including fresh tomatos and potatos were seen, indicating that the complex had recently been vacated.
Followers of Abu Abbas carried the deadly attack in 1985 on the cruise ship Achille Lauro, but renounced terrorism after the 1993 Oslo peace accords between Israel and Palestinians.
Abbas had been based in Tunisia but was more recently thought to be based in Baghdad.

Abu Abbas died in Baghdad "under suspicious circumstances" just last year.I thought that was Abu Nidal? Or are they the same person? And at the same time, wasnt it the PFLP, The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, responsible for the Achille Lauro? Not that one group name makes a difference, they are all assholes....:)

OMG, I had forgotten that one.
Half the folks I knew were convinced that with "understanding" and "right treatment" the PLOers could be made to "see the light" and renounce violence. The other half of us were doubting and shaking our heads, because they weren't looking at the elephant in the living room - the persistent denial of Israel's right merely to exist.
And here we are almost 20 years later . . .

Of what possible relevance is this to our quest for Iraqi oil and Jewish supremacy?Shhh! You'll ruin everything if you tell...

No doubt. 20 buildings and enough weapons & materiel to fill several warehouses mean nothing to the libs and mainstream muslims that choose to minimize/rationalize terrorism.

I actually saw part of the opera "Nixon in China" on our PBS channel several years ago. I watched in horrid fascination as the soprano, with hairdo and clothes exactly like my memories of Pat Nixon, sang the role of the First Lady. The guy who sang the Nixon part was made to look like Nixon, too.
There is a reason this opera isn't in the repertoire of most major opera companies. Trust me.

I agree. The 'palestinians' have a state. It's called Jordan. They don't deserve JACK! If they got what they deserve...

That was Abu Nidal I believe. Apparently committed suicide by shooting himself multiple times while in exile, in Baghdad...

Earl, you are a pearl!
Nice line, and if it was misunderstood, it is to be expected - your sublime comment was a stealth bomber at night, and just as deadly effective!

The only reason the UN is more corrupt than the DNC is because the UN has more money.
Why do you think Slick Willy wants Kofi's job?

OH, rats!
I had somehow repressed having seen part of this on PBS, and now you have stirred up the old memory banks, and out it tumbles. I will agree that the opera is icky, but I can't stand minimalist nonsense like Adams's. I prefer the Baroque and English church music.
