There are acutally two sets of crossed swords, one at each end of the entrance to the reviewing stands. I never knew this until I looked at the pics.

Guy keeps screaming on and off. Sounds like fear/anger. So much smoke now there's not much to see.

Lots of gun shots right NOW> I sacrificed myself and turned to CBS but they were doing a SARS story.

"Hey, Jim Boy? Do you know how Saddam likes his leg of lamb?"

"No, Bones, how does Saddam like his leg of lamb?"

"One each around his ears!"

Bada Bang! Bada Bing!

But the show must go on!

"Hey, Jim Boy? Did you know Saddam was a Frat boy in college?"

"No, Bones, I didn't."

"Yeah, he pledged Faruk A Yew!"

Bada Bang! Bada Bing!

Look for the Tigris River. Find the major meander (ox bow) near the center of town. On the north bank,
there are three "palaces", the Al Salam (on the left), the New Presidential and the Presidential. The first is
the headquarters of the Special Republican Guards and has been bombed into rubble. They have the
Presidential Palace near the bend in the river. The may also have the New Presidential Palace, as well.

Across Al Kindi street, they have taken the Festival and Parade Grounds. Across the Tigris from the
Presidential Palace is the Palestine Hotel, on Abu Nawas Street, where the reporters have their cameras
trained on the coalition forces at the Presidential Palace. Note also the "14th of July Monument on Al Kindi
Street, just outside the palace grounds. This is probably the most well known monument in all of Baghdad
and has been seen by most Americans on TV.

On the spit of land created by the ox bow is University of Baghdad, at the very western end. Just east
of that and next to the Tigris is a very exclusive enclave of homes for high government and military officials
and friends of Saddam Hussein. On the south end of this spit of land is a couple of Presidential Residences.
About 7 miles to the east is the Rasheed Military Airport. Supposedly, the 1st MEF is almost there. It is a
more strategically important site than the international airport.

Peter Arnett is still staying at the Palestine Hotel and is feeling pretty lonely these days, from what I hear, so
if you have a free minute, maybe you could ring him up and think of something warm to cheer him up with.
The Palestine Hotel phone number is +964 (0) 18 875 641. Sorry, I don't know his room number.

Enjoy...
