Arnett gets new job with Arab satellite TV channel
07.04.2003
Axed NBC correspondent, New Zealander Peter Arnett, is reporting for pan-Arab satellite channel Al-Arabiya.
"He [Arnett] is an able reporter who has covered wars before and who knows Iraq well," the Dubai-based station's editor-in-chief Salah Nejm said.
"I think he is unbiased and has a lot of experience."
Arnett started reporting for Al-Arabiya on Saturday, becoming its third correspondent in Baghdad. His reports are voiced over in Arabic.
Last week American network NBC fired him for giving an unauthorised interview with state-run Iraqi TV, during which he said the United States-led war effort had initially failed because of Iraq's resistance.
NBC was angered because Arnett gave the interview without permission and presented opinion as fact.
Arnett has since apologised for his "misjudgment" but described himself as a "casualty of the information war".

Another example of Peter Arnett being braindead:
"Outside of a slight headache, I feel fine!"

If were really lucky hell denounce his American citizenship and become a Dubain (or what ever they call themselves).

Well, at least Benedict Arnett is now employed where he really belongs...

As I understand it, this idiot is being hired on in multiple places -- UK's Daily Mirror, Greek TV (which just begs for Arnett to end his blather with a tag of "It's all Greek to me..."), another TV station which I can't remember, and now this.
Can anyone say "Whore for Hire" ??

Peter found his niche. I just hope he doesn't bad mouth the U.S. too much. I would be interested to know what he is saying.

I think the sad thing here is that they are probably going to pay Peter at least $150k a year. They are basically buying a western mouthpiece to dump on the west. Pete needs to know its time to hang up the microphone and retire. He simply isn't the capable reporter that he was years ago.

Hopefully he'll be sent to the satellite to broadcast from. I seem to remember something about Saddam developing an exo-atmospheric cannon, that'd be a good transportation method to send him there.

I sent a nasty email off to National Geographic after Arnetts Iraq speech.
National Geographic has received voluminous e-mail correspondence today regarding Peter Arnett, which will require some time to process. We appreciate your patience as we work our way through it. In the meantime, we did want to make sure you were aware of our decision to end Mr. Arnett's association with National Geographic. Here is the statement we released this morning.
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STATEMENT REGARDING PETER ARNETT
The National Geographic Society has terminated the services of Peter Arnett. The Society did not authorize or have any prior knowledge of Arnett's television interview with Iraqi television, and had we been consulted, would not have allowed it. His decision to grant an interview and express his personal views on state-controlled Iraqi television, especially during a time of war, was a serious error in judgement and wrong.
At least they get it.
