General amused by analysts

04/06/2003

From Staff Reports

WASHINGTON – Air Force Lt. Gen. Michael "Buzz" Moseley may be commander of the U.S.-British air effort over Iraq, but he was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, where plain-spokenness is a virtue.

Asked Saturday about critics of the U.S. war plan, especially the many former military officers on television, Gen. Moseley said he found it humorous.

"Retired military people from various grades, from major to general, seem to feel free to comment on a plan that they have never seen ... or have any understanding of," he said.

"I grew up in Texas, and a lot of these guys, I'm amused by the way they critique it, but in the end, it's a whole lot like listening to a cow pee on a flat rock. It just doesn't matter."

Things That Took Longer Than Iraq War Will

Here are a few certainties you can count on, my friends, courtesy of the all-seeing, all-knowing, all-feeling, all-everything Maha Rushie.

-We're going to take Iraq in less time than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

-It took less time to find evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq, than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

-It took Teddy Kennedy longer to call the police after his Oldsmobile sunk at Chappaquiddick, than it took the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard.

-We're going to take Iraq in less time than it took to count the votes in Florida in the year 2000!

For sure.

And probably have forgotten the meaning of what they were saying themselves.

Dad related another story just now.

My mother has a sister who is . . . super persnickidy--fastidious, picky, mouthy, proud etc. And her husband has always been a kind of Walter Mitty sort of fellow who at the time worked for Chevrolet as a mechanic.

Anyway--they all went on a pack trip in Colorado--horses packing in for a fishing trip etc.

I guess driving back from the trail-head, Dad was in the lead with a horse trailer. Unk and Aunt thinking it was him decided they could pull up VERY close (at a light) behind the short and low-doored horse trailer in their new '57 Chevy.

Where upon the horse decided to unload quite a load on top of the new Chevy's hood and hood ornament.

They immediately detoured to a car wash.

Not naming any names, of course. *coughCLARKcough*

And McCaffrey. I believe he took a shot at Rummy on BBC before Wesley did.

We have heard a lot of whining about Rummy from the anti-reform guys in the Pentagon. I would guess that with the success of this operation, Rummy will now be emboldoned to clear out the old library stacks of generals, colonels and their civilian brethren. Some of those folks should have been gone on VJ day, but they or their successors have thrived and grown for almost 60 years.

doesn't everyone say such things

In my Navy days I knew a few guys from Texas (Aggies - even worse). They were about the only guys around who had more common sense than god gave a brass monkey. Ever since then I have had enormous appreciation for the contributions of Texans in their efforts to keep this country on the straight and narrow.

Many of the worst were promoted under Clinton. Their advice was ignored by Rumsfeld. Hence their hatred of him.

"How in tarnation do they come up with this stuff! LOL!"

Texas is well known for such language but it used to be quite common throughout the south, my father used to say"it rained like a heifer pissin' on a flat rock." He would tell people that he had a spot in one of his fields where "that dirt's rich as four foot up a bull's ass." Believe it or not he was considered rather reticent compared to some.

I know someone who lives in Texas. He said discussion of homosexuals in his area is limited to, "Where's the rope?"

"Yes, but have you ever gotten a "fully laden" tail in the face while milking?"

As I recall the tail in the face was always a lot more fun when it was full of cockleburs, these produced great lacerations to show off at school. If there are enough cockleburs the tail actually becomes quite heavy and this really feels great when it lands upside your head on a cool morning. Then if you get angry and punch the cow in the side she may reward you by placing her hoof atop the arch of your foot and leaning toward you. This is very rewarding to a young farm boy and has been known to elicit some language that would make even a Texan blush.

Though I managed to tie her tail--I forget to what--her leg, I think.

Well, if it wasn't her leg that you tied it to, you must have been milking a bull. :=)
