About 1,000 Iraqi troops have been killed in fierce fighting during the move by United States tanks into Baghdad.
The toll was given by Colonel David Perkins, commander of the Second Brigade of the US Army's Third Infantry Division, which sent dozens of tanks into the Iraqi capital to step up the pressure on President Saddam Hussein.
Asked about the casualty toll among the Iraqis, Colonel Perkins said it was "estimated at about 1,000 KIAs (killed in action)."
Iraqi bodies were "all over the streets," he said.
Colonel Perkins said the US forces destroyed about 100 pieces of Iraqi equipment, including air defence systems, tanks, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, recoilless rifles and guided anti-tank missiles.

1,000 KIAs ... let's hope the ratio stays this high until VS (Victory Over Sadaam) Day.

Does having trouble wading through the piles of your enemies' dead bodies count as being "stuck in a quagmire?"

There's more to "shock and awe" as a method of convincing the enemy to wave the white flag than dropping lots of big bombs. Hopefully, the Iraqi army will begin to realize that killing off the Baath Party will be a lot less dangerous than facing our Soldiers and Marines.

We lost one man. They lost 1000. The loss of any of our heros is always tragic, but that's a heckuva good kill ratio. We killed an awful lot of bad guys in a city the information minister still insists we're not even near.
God bless our troops!

Drive-by shooting, Spartan-style.
Saddam's gangstas might need to re-think their position.

I hope the terrorists continue to flock to Iraq to fight us. It's so much easier than having to hunt them down.
