A young hockey player and part-time waitress used her hockey stick on a would-be burglar and nearly beat him to a pulp on Thursday morning.
Shortly after the attempted robbery, Leigh Fourie, 18, said she was terrified when she pounced on the would-be burglar. She threatened him, called him names and hit him with the hockey stick.
Fourie said she woke up in her parents' home in Strand about 09:15. Her mother, Evelyn Fourie, had already gone to work in Stellenbosch.
"I was drinking a milkshake in the lounge when I heard glass breaking. Someone was trying to break into my mother's bedroom next door. I crept to my bedroom, closed the door and 'phoned my mother, who told me to go outside and call the neighbours."
Fourie said she decided to use her hockey stick instead because shouting wasn't going to help. Nobody would have heard her above the wind. "I ran down the corridor shouting, rushing towards the man who had in the meantime entered the lounge. "I waved my hockey stick in the air and started hitting him on his head, neck, arms - wherever I could land a shot. He tried to get away and pulled a knife from his pocket, but I told him he should put it away, because the police were outside."
Fourie said the man, in his late twenties, decided to beat a retreat. He jumped through the broken window while she kept hitting him. ""I followed him through the broken glass, and got a few nasty cuts."
"I stumbled and hurt my knee, but when I looked up, he had run away."
The flying squad arrived about 40 minutes later.

The flying squad arrived about 40 minutes later. There is no need for private citizens to own weapons. The police will protect us. There is no need for private citizens to own weapons. The police will protect us. There is no need for private citizens to own weapons. The police will protect us....

5 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct but it's worth it when the other guy's teeth are all missing.

A young Jessica Lynch just getting started.

At least the guy ran.
The police made a showing forty minutes later.
I doubt he would have lived that long.

Posted to *bang_list. Maybe a 'blunt object list' would be more appropriate.

But....but...wait, the police *will* protect us!!
They also tell me that my weapon [hockey stick?] could be used against me...that calling 911 will save me, period...that owning weapons is just for criminals, not law abiding citizens like myself...to just yell 'fire' and help will come...using the 'buddy system' will always keep me safe...
(however, despite all of that, I feel just fine having my .357 mag within reach at all times...just personal quirk I suppose?)

A .44 Special has much less noise, kick, and muzzle flash, and makes a bigger hole. ;-)

Ah yes...and perhaps that is indeed the case.
But let me tell ya', there is *nothing* in this world quite so soothing, or which allows me to sleep quite as sound as the realization that should some ignorant **** ever make the grave mistake of targeting MY home for whatever sick little crime might be planned, the shock [NOISE] and awe [FLASH] from my Taurus will stun the little **** just enough so that I can rest assured that a larger entry wound would not_be_needed.
:^) No way I could resist that...haha!

Reasonable people may differ on these points. :-)
Wishing you much happiness with your hand-cannon.

True story: I shoot a .357 S&W Snubbie using factory loads at IDPA matches. The concussion from an inside-the-car scenario was so heavy observers told me empty brass on the roof of the car was bouncing.
Best regards,
