Karl Rove in Grand Rapids Michigan
APRIL 5 2003 | tomasUSMC

Posted on 04/05/2003 8:33:55 AM PST by TomasUSMC

Karl Rove spoke last night at Grand Rapids to a crowd of 500 at Ford International Airport. The theme was Texas Barbeque and the hanger was totally spruced up for the event, with haystacks, western saddles and folks all duded up. Cowboy hats and boots were the uniform of the day and most folks made a conscious effort to pass inspection. As I waited for all the hobnobing, networking, card exchanging, mingling....to die down and for the show to start I spotted someone who looked like a good target for the freeper photographer that was there with me( the great, the one and only, PHOTOGIRL!) So i mosey on up to him and lo and behold he tells me "Hi, my name is Karl Rove", well schucks, bust my britches! All of the sudden the Grand Rapids Press and Photogirl just a started to clickin away with their hi falutin cameras and that was that. Photogirl had picked out 2 beautiful gifts on behalf of Michigan Freerepublic for Mr. Rove and the President but I didn't get a chance to make a big deal of the presentation about it cause the ole security guy kinda just wisked em away. They were real nice gold framed pics of our Lansing rally a couple of weeks back. Very classy. Kudos 4 photogirl. It was the only gift I saw Mr. Rove get. Mr. Roves speech was part spellbinding, part ecomomics and 100% patriotic. The speech started with a talk about Abraham Lincoln and quickly focused on a speech he gave on the fundamentals of American Sucess, something he called "The right to rise". Mr Rove noted that the importants points were: Property, responsibility, ingenuity, and enterprise. Mr. Lincoln in that speech wanted to equate the Declaration of Independence with the American Creed and America as the last best hope for Mankind. Mr. Rove went on to speak about Presidents Bush and several Pictures of Lincoln, especially one that shows Lincoln, Sherman, Grant and Porter together planning how to rebuild the country during the rapidly approaching victory over the south. The title is the Peacemakers. Mr Rove then went on the touch on the economy, taxes, law suits, education and ended up honoring our great heros and fallen comrades. Pointing out that even though our military was attacked in every cowardly, criminal way. False white flags, civilian human shields and suicides, we consistantly responded with medical aid to the enemy and the following of the standards of the Geneva Convention. A great event, the food was great, but for this American of Puerto Rican decent, these cowboy boots I just bought pert near had me a fallin over a time or two. They'll need a gettin used to. What the heck, the food was great. God Bless America

Hello! I'm going to have the photos done later today. Freepers Up, if you have the time, maybe you can help me later? It may be a little while, because I have to uncover my car from the 2inches of ice we got last night.
There was an article in the Grand Rapids Press this morning, that put the crowd at 900. Maybe someone with a faster computer can post a link? I'll be back later with photos....

Porter is there but not Sherman...this was in Lincoln's visit right before the fall of Richmond as they are thinking of how to handle the surrender of Lee's army.

I have the painting, but don't know how to post the photo.

Freepersup is available for image posting duties and will be happy to do it. I haven't read the article fully yet, but I know that if Karl Rove came to town, Michigan's electoral votes are in his sights. Illinois's electoral votes are prized as well. FWIW- Karl Rove was a strategist for US Senator Peter G. Fitzgerald's successful Senate campaign which resulted in the defeat of one of the most liberal US Senators in America: Carol Mosely Braun.

Thank you Tomas, for an insightful and entertaining report on the Wizard of Washington. I mean the other Wizard, not Michael Jordan, but Karl Rove. See my post # 7 to photogirl about Karl Rove's 'touch'.

Our President has a knack for surrounding himself with high caliber people, and in turn these same people recognize the leadership qualities of President Bush. The old saw, birds of a feather flock together, rings true in sizing up the personnel performing the people's work, and the bottom line (results) is certainly bearing fruit.

While the Democrats have begun to campaign earnestly, President Bush decided to hold off on campaigning until the war was successfully prosecuted upon Iraq. This isn't to say that the preliminary work being conducted by the President's team is a violation of this pledge, as the work is suttle and is less effective than were it to be an all out race to the finish line.

FWIW- Around 50 local patriots met in Springfield, Illinois, for a Support Our Troops rally. Yours truly only had to drive a mere 30 miles to attend this rally.

Take care my friend- Semper Fi- All the way and then some-

Hello, the power has been out most of the day, but has just been turned back on. The photolab said my pics should be done by 9pm tonight. I'm on the slowest computer ever, so we'll see how it goes. :) Thank you again for your help, I think I owe you a couple of beers for all your work!! Let me know if you're ever up in G.R. again.

Wow excellent!

I was supposed to go to this and I had a Lansing Rally packet (pics etc.) all made up but I have had a very nasty barometric pressure induced headache for about 3 days and have been almost totally out of commission
Good Job!
