Once the nation building process begins, even after all the UN has done to embarass the US, the US will turn over Iraq to the UN.

I certainly hope the UN has nothing to do with post war Iraq. Probably Powell will argue it should, but Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld and others will go against it. To date the opinion pieces in the Weekly Standard have been a very good indicator of what the administration will do. This may be the first in a large series of article that will begin appearing everywhere on the track record of the UN in rebuilding, which is horrible.

Shout it from the mountain tops, send a copy of this to every congresscritter, tattoo this to Colin Powell's forehead. We cannot let this happen in Iraq.

"I was glad when I read in an article in the Wall Street Journal that the United States had decided to conduct the initial reconstruction of postwar Iraq itself, with contractors who work for the U.S. government. At least the Iraqi people will not have to undergo experiments."

This is the best read of the day, Pokey78. I wish you would change the title to something closer to the actual title of this extraordinary piece to attract more freepers. I'm bookmarking this thread under "Iraq Reconstruction threatened by UN, humanitarian mafia" headline for further reading and thought.

I believe that the Weekly Standard reflects high level thinking in the Bush administration, and am sure that Bush will do everything to keep a tight hold on reconstruction. WE shall see who opposes him among the DemonRats.

The U.N. is not the nations of the world united. It is an enterprise located in a building in New York, with satellite operations around the world, employing a certain cadre of people of many nationalities, most of whom are time-servers and ideologues.

No more UN for US-list

If people want on or off this list, please let me know.

The author of this article is a RADICAL ISLAMIC PUNK!! Don't let his name fool you !!

Next, THERE ARE NO SUCH CREATURES AS KOSOVARS!!

That name is a made up UN name for the Albanians who have stolen KOSOVO from the SERBS.

KOSOVO is the ancient homeland of the Serbs.....not the Turks of the Ottoman empire or the Albanians from ALBANIA.

The UN has allowed those Albanians to kill thousands of Serbs and Romas just since 1999. And, has allowed them to destroy over 120 Churches!!!

There is no penalty for an ALBANIAN MUSLIM who kills a Serb or a Roma.... the UN allows the local Albanian "justice" system to set them free almost immediately.

The KLA is nothing but an islamic mafia with ties to al queer-da, drug smugglers and white slavers.

Oh, yes the UN does a crummy job, but this author is really upset, because they UN has not sent the rest of the Serbs and Romas packing like they did the 250,000 that have already left. This author/jerk wants an ISLAMIC regime set up there!!

I never doubt the ignorance of many Americans when it comes to foreign policy.

I am not talking about the suckiness of the UN (and it does indeed suck) I am talking about how an ex-Marxist turned Islamist spokesperson can fool Americans into supporting an Islamic statelet of Kosovo (which has killed off Christians by the hundreds and driven the rest off) by touching on the issue obliquely. It is a communist trick--they used to insert communist propoganda in movie scripts back in the 40s too in this way.

All of you who said great article --- SUCKERS!!!. The Muslim 5th columnists (whose book praises the Islamic state of Iran) roped you in hook, line and sinker.

You mistakenly believe that I, and most likely the others that commented favorably on this article, support the Islamic statelet of Kosovo. Not the case at all, at least for me, but he did make a very solid case as to the true evil of the U.N. The whole enflaming of the Islamic peoples against the West, as well as, the birth and promotion of terrorism is most assuredly the work of communism. Iraq will change that, provided we listen to this author and keep the U.N. out of the rebuilding process. Then the Arab and Muslim world will see the American vs. the Russian/U.N. ideology at work and will finally reject theirs for ours. So Stephen Schwartz may indeed be what you proclaim, but that does not mean he is not 100% correct about the mess the U.N. will create in Iraq if we allow them to lead in their reconstruction. He is correct and his argument should be listened to. American reconstruction, as was done in Germany and Japan, should be the model, not the U.N.

You are correct, however, that does not negate the message that the author conveys whether that was his intention or not, and his message should be listened to. If the U.N. is given control of the reconstruction process then America should not have attacked Iraq, because they will end up hating us. We successfully reconstructed Japan and Germany. The U.N. has been a total failure. You even point out many of the failures yourself in Kosovo. If we rebuild Iraq I guarantee you that Islamic fascism will be stopped dead in its tracks and Arab hatred to the West will wane once they see American ideologies at work vs. commmunist ideologies. But another key to this will be getting Bush re-elected. If we get another Clinton type liberal during reconstruction, this will have all been a waste of time.

Just another note--American reconstruction will not work along the lines of Germany or Japan in Iraq. Those two nations had things going for it we do not here.

In Japan we had the emperor who blessed our occupation and in Germany and Japan we had a hetergenous people used to following authority and the fear of the Russians to keep the Germans in line.

If you think within one year the Kurds and the Shiites are going to be playing anything but lip service to the American in charge for a united Iraq I may want to place a bet with you!
