PRINCETON BOROUGH - The Rev. Pat Robertson spoke from the lectern at Princeton University last night like it was his pulpit, calling students to stand up for their moral convictions and not be swayed by popular culture.
His hair is all gray now, he had surgery in February and is recovering from prostate cancer, but the evangelist showed no signs of wavering last night when he spoke at the invitation of a student group.

If you read the thread you will notice my intial reply is to post #5.
That seems to be the case..
You know, the provision that protects peaceful Christians, Jews, Muslims, Communists, KKK freaks, Druids, Satan worshipers and generally every single one of us who wishes to be able to practice our religion in peace.. Without worries of it someday falling from favor and being persecuted by the state for our beliefs.
Or, would you rather go for broke and have the Federal Government "assign" the "proper" religion for us all?
I'm an Aztec. My religion requires that a human sacrifice be carried out each evening to appease the sun god. If sacrifice is not carried out, the sun will not rise and we will all perish.
Is my religion protected by the First Amendment or are only the religions that you approve of protected?
When the Spaniards led by Hernando Cortes first saw the human ritual slaughter that the Aztec priests were carrying out on a daily basis they decided then and there that this will not stand. To stop it, they destroyed the society and converted them all to Christianity. Are the present day descendents of the Aztecs in Mexico City better off as Christians today or would they be better off had the Spaniards felt that the Aztecs should be allowed to "practice their religion in peace"?
We find ourselves in the same position looking at Islam today that the Spaniards found themselves in back in 1521.
Here is an account of the Aztec religious ceremony:
No matter what the size of the sacrifice, it was always performed the same way. The victim was held down by four priests on an altar at the top of a pyramid or raised temple while the officiant made an incision below the rib cage and pulled out the living heart. The heart was then burned and the corpse was pushed down the steep steps; a very brave or noble victim was carried down the steps. The most brutal of human sacrifices were those dedicated to the god Huehueteotl. Sacrificial victims were drugged and then thrown into a fire at the top of the ceremonial platform. Before they were killed by the fire, they were dragged out with hooks and their living hearts were pulled out and thrown back into the fire.
I'll repeat: Is my religion protected by the First Amendment?
Are Aztecs protected or not?
Nice strawman..
All religions which function within the law are protected by the First Amendment.
If your "religion" involves human sacrifice, then it is not covered and you will not find a court in the land which will lift a finger to save you.
However, if you are one of the THOUSANDS of American Muslims who goes about their daily business, hurting no one, then that's simply not your concern.
It's easily shot down and has no bearing on the subject at hand.
If these Aztec's don't perform their sacrifice, and they follow the law... to the letter. Does the first amendment apply to them?
Or does it only protect Christians and Jews?
Yes, as long as they don't break the law of the land.
Mainstream Mormons dont practice polygamy anymore, many Jehovahs Witnesses went the prison during the draft because some judges did not approve their conscientious objector status, Christian Scientist children are forced to receive medical attention even when their Christian Scientist parents disapprove of medical treatment.
As you can see, freedom of religion is not an absolute.
Jesus was offensive buddy. Nowday Christians are way too nice..TBS is more in line than you give him credit.

Preacher 'encouraged Muslims to wage war on all non-believers'
What religions do you have in mind?
The Aztec religion was functioning within the law that existed in the land of the Aztecs in 1521. Should Cortes have simply let them practice their religion in peace and gone on his way?
When I see Muftis in Saudi Arabia encouraging Hamas suicide bombers to kill Jewish children I see a religion that looks to me much like the Aztec religion looked to Cortes and his men in 1521.
Under our laws you can be tried for conspiracy to commit murder if you ask someone to murder for you. There are some Muslims who under the cloak of religion are encouraging others to commit murder, plain and simple. I do not believe that they are protected by the First Amendment.
That's my point. Thanks.
Actually, many aren't. Take this thread, for instance.
