Uh... let's see... you're going to war against the US... what are the odds that your guys are going to go up against a helicopter?
100%
What's the odds of some of those helicopters being Apaches?
100%
Now, how much trouble is it to make tapes in advance about different aircraft in the US arsenal getting shot down, particularly when you can make up any generic shootdown story you like, and when the amount of tape you can edit is unlimited?
Easy. What are the odds in a socialist or a communist state of shootdowns of helicoptors being assigned in advance to peasants even if the manner of bringing down an aircraft is unknown?
100% - remember all that old agitprop claimiong peasants and workers were doing this or that from the Stalin era or the Ho Chi Minh era, etc?
Since the Apache did go down- in a hot firefight, not because a "peasant" shot it down- we know that the peasant tale was a fabrication, and being a fabrication it could be applied to ANY Apache shot down anywhere in Iraq at any time. For all we know, he has a tape which mentions a shootdown of a chinook, too- or a warthog... (I would if I was a tinpot dictator trying to keep a legacy going.) But since we haven't lost one of those aircraft, there is no need to use those filmclips.
Now if the character telling the tale in the video had mentioned details like the captured pilots' names, or the Apache's number, then it would be conclusive. As it is, it's a strong maybe since we aren't sure we got him and the last we heard he was on a stretcher and the Iraqis were looking for a Russian doc, but thanks to the wonders of recording, it is by no means a certainty that he was alive at the time of the shootdown.
Assuming he is alive though- I wonder where his body guard is, and I wonder if Hussein's even in the country.

please, give us a break.

If we don't know whether he's dead or gone, that's a success in the larger picture. "Decapitation" always referred to bypassing the slog of taking the Basras, Mosuls and An Najafs in lieu of heading directly and furiously to neutralize the Baghdad Baath command regime. It wasn't about killing Saddam with that first strike, that was a improvisational audible called when an unforseen opportunity presented itself on the eve of the ground seige.

Exactly! This peasant-helicopter-shoot-down was a total photo op that was SET UP in advance. Sneaky little boogers, aren't they?
Last week there was a thread here with photos of Iraqis waiting for hours at a graveyard for Saddam's minions to come with video equipment. They were told to cry and wail about the loss of their loved ones when the cameras were on. (No, Michael Moore didn't get credit for the production but evidently he likes their style.)

Don't kid yourself. He's alive. Aziz would have bolted long ago if his patron had been killed in that opening shot.Maybe not. He may be suffering from delusions of grandeur, thinking HE could move to be the leader of Iraq when all is said and done.

Those of you wishful thinkers that are so certain Saddam is dead should find yourself a pair of ruby slippers click your heels together three times and repeast after me:
I know Saddam is dead!
I know Saddam is dead!
I know Saddam is dead!
Maybe he'll oblidge you by being dead. Speaking for those of us that understand that an assertion is still not a fact no matter how vehemently is asserted, we'll wait for Special Forces to breach his bunkers.

really? imagine this scenario if you would:
- we didn't kill him, he escaped to Syria with all the powdered anthrax he needs.
- we fight our way all the way to baghdad, only to find he and his inner circle aren't there.
- we find no WMD.
- we are left having to occupy the country, which becomes the West Bank times 10 for us.
- years from now, some kind of WMD terror attack occurs inside the US. We are left in the dark, asking ourselves who did it?
It is this scenario that we must fear. We need good intelligence about what is going on to make the correct decisions.

no christian could ever lead iraq under any circumstances. no way, not possible, never.
To: SuziQ
If he is alive chalk this up to another level of ineptitude besides the fact that this is an incredibly stupid time to show up, with the city surrounded and no place to go!
I think the only thing alive is the infestation of maggots in the hole in his head!

I think this was only broadcast via satellite. Iraqi cilvilians are not allowed to own satellite tv. This proaganda was exclusively sent to the Arab masses in the Middle East.
However, the pre-recorded speech was actually intended for the local Iraqis. If he made the tape before the war, they would have never known that it would only be viewed OUTSIDE IRAQ. Yet, I think, this tape makes no reference to ALL ARABS to fight, Saddam only speaks about the Iraqis fighting.
We are inside of greater Baghdad, it is about time for the new IRAQI FREEDOM channel to start broadcasting the liberation of Iraq to the people.
Heck, the IRAQI FREEDOM CHANNEL could even announce that SADDAM (AND SONS ARE DEAD). The old IraqiTv channel would be hard pressed to offer concrete evidence to the later, especially if their local over-the-air signal has been terminated or at least jammed compared to a more powerful IRAQI FREEDOM CHANNEL broadcast.

Maybe not. He may be suffering from delusions of grandeur, thinking HE could move to be the leader of Iraq when all is said and done.Unlikely. Aziz is a Christian in a Muslim country. He has zero personal power base. He is nothing without the sponsorship of Saddam Hussein. Saddam picked him to be his #2 for precisely that reason.

If you look at the pic, the head is too big for the body.

You seem to have no understanding of Saddam Hussein's power base. He has NONE outside Iraq.
To: A_Niceguy_in_CA
OK, where is the satellite uplink it is being broadcast from?

A guy that can order the tongues and ears cut off of his own people.....Could certainly force one of his "doubles" to have plastic surgery.

okay...the other day Saddam's body guard, who they say NEVER guards anyone else, was indeed in the press conference room. Isn't it possible that Saddam was in that room? Hiding in plain sight?
If Saddam was injured or killed, wouldn't the body guard who never leaves his side also have been injured or killed? He looked fine.
Am I the only one who sees a similarity between the look of Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf and Saddam? I have taken pictures side by side and put a mustache and heavier eye brows on Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf...I think he looks exactly like Saddam!

You guys are killing me with these videotapes for every eventuality scenarios. LOL! Keep up the good work. Him and OBL are friggin geniuses. They can lead from beyond the grave. I'd like to hear some more of your theories. Who shot Kennedy? Was the moonwalk faked? What's really at area 51?

Aziz is not even REMOTELY number two in the Iraqi power hierarchy. It's his younger son Ixnay, then his Chief of Staff, then the older sociopath/rapist Otay. Aziz is a lackey.

I agree with your logic that he easily could have prepared this video ahead of time....however, even if the speaker in the video held up today's newspaper, it would not be conclusive to me, until I heard from enough credible sources that it wasn't a double.

they do perform plastic surgery on them, that is well known. but is that surgery good enough to "defeat" facial analysis techniques?
