Word on Madonnas upcoming antiwar video started spreading about six weeks ago. Did American Life show violence breaking out during a fashion show? Did it have Madonna lobbing a grenade into the crowd?
THE VIDEO WAS STILL being edited, but rumors were so rife that the singer issued a statement. I am not anti-Bush. I am not pro-Iraq. I am pro-peace, she said. As an artist, I hope [the video] provokes thought and dialogue, she continued. I dont expect everyone to agree with my point of view. I am grateful to have the freedom to express these feelings.
And apparently, the freedom not to express them, as well. Two weeks into the U.S.-led battle with Iraq, Madonna has decided not to release the video at all. It was filmed before the war started, and I do not believe it is appropriate to air it at this time, she said in a statement Tuesday. Due to the volatile state of the world and out of sensitivity and respect to the armed forces, who[m] I support and pray for, I do not want to risk offending anyone who might misinterpret the meaning of this video.

Another tidbit in the article:
Michael Moore, by contrast, has been roundly criticized for his antiwar, anti-Bush outcry that evening. Susan Sarandon, who flashed only a peace sign during the Oscars, has been punished for the antiwar views she expressed before the war began
Prostitution as art... interesting concept.
"I also contradict myself all the time. Either that, or I'm too stupid and clueless to realize and appreciate how I GOT that damn freedom"
