Iran Says War Will Bring More Terrorism

By ALI AKBAR DAREINI .c The Associated Press

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran's reformist president warned Thursday that terrorists would view the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq as a ``green light'' to attack U.S. interests and called on Americans to ``wake up'' and stop the war.

``Those who drop bombs and missiles on Iraq will harvest nothing other than destruction and people's hatred,'' state-run Tehran television quoted President Mohammad Khatami as saying.

``If this war is not contained, its consequences for the world and the region will be many times more dangerous than the Vietnam tragedy.''

Iran's soft-spoken president said the invasion of Iraq would only provoke violence.

``Through this war, you are giving a green light to extremists to resort to violence to counter your violence,'' Khatami was quoted as saying. ``The American nation should wake up and stand up to this war. America's warmongering rulers are isolated and alone ... and the war will isolate them further day by day.''

Iran dislikes Iraqi President Saddam Hussein but also has strongly opposed the U.S attack without U.N. support, fearing that it could give Washington a free hand in post-Saddam Iraq and leave Iran encircled by pro-American countries.

Iran has said it will not support a U.S.-installed government in Baghdad and instead favors an Iraqi government elected by its people with guidance from the United Nations.

"Iran's reformist president..."

I agree with you. That's the first thing that hit me. We can thank the AP for its usual disinformation.

Should we worry about sleeper agents? Absolutely not. The same thing happens to them that happened to most Soviet spies. They get here, they notice that every aspect of life is superior to the holes they came from and abandon their original mission in favor of the American Dream.
It's "Reverse Stockholm Syndrome" where the villains develop sympathy for their intended victims.

Didn't they hear the reports of U.S. soldiers knee deep in Iraqi body parts?

Probably not, we barely did.

The mullahs are quaking in their boots. They hear the tink tink tink of a tyranny collapsing and they're fearful for their own future. We should make it clear we back the Iranian people's desire for freedom and would welcome their overthrowing a repressive regime. Two of the Axis Of Evil may be gone soon. That leaves us to deal with North Korea on OUR terms.

It's his way of saying, don't fight us, just give up because we are terrorists. They are beginning to understand that we can be BAD, and there will be less terrorism simply because many of their terrorists have died as of late in Iraq. We overcome evil with good, a good pounding and standing strong to defend the freedoms that the only One True Almighty has given us.

What's this, more blackmail and threats? Yeah, yeah, sea of fire, oceans of blood, gouge our eyes out, blah blah blah.

You see what's happening next door, Mr. Khatami? You send one terrorist over here, and you're next.

Well since the Irianians are major supporters of Hezbollah and are hosting AlQueda terrorist, they should know when we are targets.

However I would hasten to point out that they may want to look at what is happening next door and consider making sure their friends leave us alone. The don't want 'the Great Satan' on their butts.

I really don't think it's been made clear enough to all those - and Khatami is certainly one - who have a history of backing terrorism, that it's way too late to threaten us with something that will happen anyway. 9/11 changed everything for them as well as for us. What it did for us was to make it clear that simply sitting back and letting them work themselves into a murderous frenzy wasn't going to help, giving way incrementally wasn't going to help, and that we will and have, if aroused, refuse to restrict ouselves from swinging in futility at shadows and, instead, strap on the guys who are behind the threats. The old niceties that protected and empowered terrorism are now changed rules - incontravertible proof that must be universally accepted - an impossibility, international approval that must be obtained unreservedly - equally an impossibility, and a meticulous dance through the endless hoops of international law when that is used merely as a weapon against us. In short, that little game is over, the world has changed.

There are reportedly Hezbollah operatives in country. All it will take to embroil both Syria and Iran in a fight they don't really want is for these to do exactly what Khatami is threatening. We are not restricted to slogging armored divisions through the desert in order to meet these threats, and we have the money and the technology to find exquisitely disagreeable alternatives. All that was lacking was the resolution, and that is what 9/11 changed. This is NOT the time for threats.

Hey Ali Akbar Dareini, next time you're chatting with your buddy Khatami you just tell him 99.44% of Freepers say,

"WE DOUBLE-DOG DARE YOU!"

It's about fr*ggin' time that the terrorists actually consider the United States to be a little "unpredictable" when it comes to our response to their violent attacks.

Does this mean they intend to take up the slack with Saddam out of the picture? They're missing the point.
