Fourteen large explosions rock central Baghdad

BAGHDAD, April 4 (Reuters) - Fourteen large explosions rocked central Baghdad early on Friday as war planes roared overhead, a Reuters witness said.

Correspondent Nadim Ladki said the blasts in the centre of the city came shortly after a series of explosions were heard in the south and southwest of Baghdad from the general direction of the airport.

U.S. Marines were fighting for control of the airport in the first ground attack in the capital in the 16-day battle to oust Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

No disrespect to the Marines, but the ones fighting for the airport are soldiers of the U. S. Army.

In what sense is this news? There are loud explosions everyday in Baghdad. Tell me when they stop.

Am I the only one who is offended with referring to Hussein, Jemin or Castro as "President"?

They are dictators, and that's what we need to call them.

You're right. My bad! I was thinking that THIS was Friday. I'm suffering from jet lag, myself. I just got back from Paris yesterday.

When your opponent is drowning the only humane thing to do is to stick a garden hose in his mouth and let her rip.
