CBC-TV Website (Canada) Now Censoring DON CHERRY!
CBC government-run Canadian TV
Posted on 04/03/2003 12:23:42 AM PST by billclintonwillrotinhell
On March 22nd, Don Cherry of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada stood up for America and criticized the Canadian government for its anti-war, anti-American stance.
Now the CBC website has yanked the March 22nd Real Video link from its Don Cherry Coach's Corner homepage. I had viewed the entire 7-minute clip just the other night, but now it's the ONLY video clip that is missing from the entire hockey season's archives! This comes after Cherry delivered more harsh criticism of the Canadian government and anti-war "kooks" in a recent U.S. radio interview. The freshly-censored CBC web page is: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hnic/coach.html
The CBC has also released a statement to Canadian media, saying that it regrets Cherry's statements from the March 22nd segment in which the hockey commentator was wearing a star-spangled tie.
If you're as outraged as me that the CBC is now censoring one of its country's best spokesmen, you can file a complaint (as I already did) on their contact page at:
http://www.cbc.ca/aboutcbc/contact/index.html
It's bad enough that they have to burn our flag and boo our anthem, but now those pathetic Hosers are trying to muzzle Don Cherry!

Wow - I never watch hockey - oops - but I saw that 7 minute thing. What Cherry said could be taken as opinion -(funny - i thought was what he got paid for) but the other guy - he expressed a really big opinion too. I guess his was the correct opinion.
Can someone tell me how to put a little thingee beside my name that says I apoligize for every Canadian who has ever said anything?

Sorry, I don't know how to put the little words after your name -- but thanks for what you said. I can honestly say I am getting pretty angry with what is coming out of Canada!!!

Fine. We'll just lure down south the remaining Canadian NHL teams.
Montreal to Houston, Ottawa to San Antonio, Toronto to Salt Lake, Vancouver to Seattle, and we'll let Alberta keep its teams, since it has been the most supportive province.

This reminds me when I went to a Minnesota v Vancouver game which took place in vancouver. The hometown canadien crowd was booing the star-spangled banner as well as chanting 'USA sucks.' Not minnesota sucks, but USA sucks. I was too furious for words. Another beer and I would have been escorted out in cuffs.

Don Cherry has used his Coach's Corner segment to speak about many non-hockey topics over the years, including the evils of drug use and teen suicide. He has also expressed support for Canada's military many times in previous missions, and he encourages people to become organ donors.
The CBC can't get away with simply saying Cherry should stick to hockey. Cherry's sidekick Ron MacLean expressed an anti-war opinion, but the CBC hasn't said that it regrets MacLean's remarks. The CBC has only slammed Cherry.
Simply put, the CBC is funded by Canada's government and supports the government, which is anti-war. They don't want to hear anything else from anybody else. Its credibility is only slightly higher than that of Iraqi TV.

I am getting pretty angry with what is coming out of Canada!!! Please don't get angry with Canada. Canada, like the CBC, exists only to laugh at.

You're right about Alberta being the most U.S.-friendly province.
Don Cherry did point out in a recent radio interview that a lot of ordinary Canadians across that country actually support the U.S. and the war effort. While liberal idiots in Montreal and Vancouver may boo the American anthem, Cherry pointed out that a recent Toronto crowd applauded wildly and waved American flags during the U.S. anthem in that city.
It's also important to point out that Montreal is in the French-speaking province of Quebec. The key word is French. Heck, a few years ago, Quebec almost voted to secede from Canada in a referendum that went down to the wire and was just barely defeated.
To compare Canada's map to the United States' map:
Alberta=the American heartland
Montreal=San Francisco

Maybe the reason so many great comedians come from Canada is that they're so used to laughing at themselves!

That disappoints me about Vancouver. I've made several trips there over the past several years, but I have absolutely no desire to cross the border anytime in the foreseeable future. I'll spend my money in America.

We've already taken away the Winnipeg Jets and Quebec Nordiques from Canada. We might as well move the rest of them down here.
It speaks volumes about Canada's weakness as a country that it can't even support the national pastime of hockey!
Heck, we have hockey teams down here in southern cities where ice can only be found in a glass!
By my personal experiences, Canadians are weak-minded! The ones who say they are not "like the others" let "the others" do whatever they want and say whatever they will w/o even the least bit of scrutiny. They can allow an arena full of adults scare the livin' daylights out of a bunch of youngsters simply there to play hockey, but then get upset when someone lambastes those people. As well, when someone comments on their acquiessence, they get all gung-ho and PO'd at you while telling you they disagree with the libs up there in spite of any obvious evidence!
Go figure...

Yeah, but having said that, I don't see a whole lot of those Canadians who do support the U.S. and the president stepping up to say so. They seem content to allow the liberals rule the roost up there. That's what bothers me. Bunch of pansies!

Actually, if you go to the Yahoo News or Yahoo Pictures search site and search for Ottawa thousands, you can see pictures and stories about thousands of Canadians who turned out on Saturday to show their support for the United States and their disappointment with the liberal clintonesque Canadian government.
American flags were everywhere! I'm just afraid that Canada's conservative minority is drowned out by a left-wing media and a liberal majority that has a complete stranglehold on eastern Canada and the big cities.

ping for later. The CBC's Peter Mansbridge will be on C-SPAN's Socialist Washington Journal Friday morning. Someone should try to call in and put him on the spot about this (even though he almost certainly had nothing to do with it).

It's interesting that you mention Mansbridge because his name came up briefly in that March 22nd segment. I think Ron MacLean mentioned that Mansbridge would be updating viewers on war news later, and Don Cherry kind of waved him off as if to indicate that Mansbridge is just another Peter Jennings who can't be trusted.
