Just out of curiosity... I have never been in the military so I am probably not aware of some "rule of thumb"... If there is some military guy (or girl) here please tell me your thoughts...
Iraq is in the desert right?
Native Iraqies presumably know that they are in the desert right? Everything is tan right??
SO HOW COME IRAQI SOLDIERS WEAR GREEN UNIFORMS???

Believe it or not, the Iraqi Army is not a "desert army." They fought the Iranians in the swamps that border the two countries. The vast majority of the Iraqi army is garrisoned on the greenbelt that is along their river basins.
All US Army units train in the desert of Fort Irwin. We are more of a desert army than they are.

They look like desert plants that way.
Much of the Iran-Iraq war was fought in the Shatt-al-Arab swamps. Perhaps that's why.
Perhaps the French has lots of left over green material.

No, not all of it. Once you get into the river deltas and around Baghdad, it's more agricultural and marshy. In the north it varies between rolling hills and desert.

SO HOW COME IRAQI SOLDIERS WEAR GREEN UNIFORMS??? It's not all desert. As we get closer to Baghdad, some of our soldiers are switching to darker uniforms also.

"Iraq is in the desert right?" There's plenty of mountain and swamp, and the area between the rivers (Greek: Meso = between, Potamia = rivers) is full of good croplands that can be quite green.
Believe it or not Dept.: Before Saddam and the sicko socialists ruined the place, Iraq was a net exporter of RICE.

Almost all of the 8-year long Iran-Iraq War was fought in Louisiana-style green marshes.
In Gulf War I, the Iraqi Army went into it with basically no desert fighting experience whatsoever, while most US troops had trained in the desert in California, ironically. Media never told you that prior to the war, though.
Very few people actually live in the desert in Iraq.
