Based on who's testimony? Spin by those who want to promote women in combat?? I can see it now Reese Witherspoon plays her in the movies - after that why not women in combat?
The ambushed soldiers were taken by suprise by the Iraqis and it was over quick so its hard to belive this story.

Yeah, it can be over quick.

Spin by those who want to promote women in combat? If she fought well and heroically, she deserves all the acclaim and respect she will undoubtedly receive.
But it would be wrong--terribly wrong and short-sighted--to use this isolated incident as a justification for making women a regular part of front-line combat forces.
I pray people, especially conservatives, have better sense than to fall for such an emotion-driven argument.

Oh so cynical lol. Well, they did lie about the flight surgeons treatment after capture. Even if it is a bit exaggerated, it could have good psy-ops effects.

I'm sure that entire unit fought like tigers - some even to their deaths. But I gotta agree with Destro on this. Story is too pat and everyone wants to believe it. It just doesn't ring true. Unconfirmed rumors, un-named officials etc.

I don't know enough to form an opinion. Maybe she shot back I hope so. I assume she was being shot at.
I'm not sure what makes a hero anymore. We almost seem to believe being there is enough. Maybe it is. Maybe we should have levels of heroes. Say Audie Murphy, Nathan Hale or the guy who charged the machine gun nest to save his buddies on one end and folks who were captured, shot back, and survived somewhere down the hero ladder.
We have had plenty of women heroes in our history.
I fear I know exactly why she was not dead like the others...we all have that gnawing awareness as to why.
I am elated she survived...for her and her family.
None of that changes my view on women in combat.
It's bad tactically, strategically and for society as a whole and is precisely why no one hardly indulges in it.
