Pfc. Jessica Lynch, rescued Tuesday from an Iraqi hospital, fought fiercely and shot several enemy soldiers after Iraqi forces ambushed the Army's 507th Ordnance Maintenance Company, firing her weapon until she ran out of ammunition, U.S. officials said yesterday.

What do you mean, "something she's not"? Clearly she *was* and she *is*. Heroes are not supermen. They're most often ordinary people who find themselves in positions where they have to show courage even though they're terrified.

This young soldier put her life on the line for you and came through for you. And whether you like the idea of women in combat or not is beside the point. And if my daughter or your daughter or anyone's daughter wants to defend her country like that when she grows up, I say fan-f'n-tastic.

I'm amazed at this line of "thinking" out there. I guess the only time it's ok for women to fight is if they're in some looney Idaho militia or something.

Not to wanting to make anyone angry here but IMHO,women will belong on the front lines when they can achieve the same objectives as men without the preferential treatment.Womens and mens standards in the services are very different.Womens standards are much lower than the mens standards.If women want to be treated and seen as equals then we need to play on a balanced field and not allow legislation and feminist agenda's to put us in places that we haven't earned the right to be.If a woman can prove herself to be as capable as a man as far as standards go then by all means she should be put where ever the men go (if she wants to be there in the first place.)

I have no doubt that the story of her shooting Iraqis and fighting to the end is true -- but HOW do they know that? Everyone with her was either killed or captured.

If she fought well and heroically, she deserves all the acclaim and respect she will undoubtedly receive.

But it would be wrong--terribly wrong and short-sighted--to use this isolated incident as a justification for making women a regular part of front-line combat forces.

Second that. Keep women out of combat -- not because they are women, but because we are men. If you can't understand that argument, you probably don't open doors for your wife.

I agree with you and I think that is happening now. I heard one former military intelligence say that that was probably the reason she was flown to Germany. They have a psychological unit there. They don't usually fly those planes with only one passenger.

Know what Destro? I think you're a Peter Arnett type guy. Yep. You don't really give a rats ass about what this soldier did; I mean, even if they had videos of this woman mowing down Iraqis, you'd be pissing and whining about what an awful thing it was for her to be there.

I am consistant. I want no women in combat and the Air Force cadets accused of rape are innocent men until proven guilty-yet since you, LenS backed Muslim causes you would beleive that American Air Force cadets rape women on a per capita bases higher than the number you claim the Serbs raped (Serbian raping Muslim women en mass has been proven to be a false story).

American soldiers are not rapists, even the ones in the Air Force.

The feminazis have tried to convince us that rape is the worst torture anyone would ever have to endure, but the reality is that all people, men and women are vulnerable in their genitalia.

Scientifically, fair skinned people have a lower pain threshold than darker skinned people. Does that mean we should not send Scandinavians and Irish folks into battle?

To your point, women should not be drafted. Why?
1) The fact that battle can lead to hand-to-hand combat, would result in an unfair advantage for a male in a male/female scuffle.
2) Women can become pregnant and in combat situations may not have access to birth control and protection from sexually transmitted diseases, not to mention the religious aspect of fornication and rape.
3) Women, who bear the children who are the future of the country, must do so at the same age that would make them eligible for the draft. Age does not affect a man's ability to reproduce, within reason.

However, a woman who knowingly decides to join the marines, air force, etc. is a different story. Some women will do fine in a support role. On the other hand, I do not have first hand knowledge of whether women provide enough of a distraction that they can jeopardize the performance of our armies.

A former interlligence officer I heard on the radio last night said that the Iraqi's were breaking her bones and that Jessica was probably several broken bones away from joining her fellow soldiers underground. Her take was that they were going to kill her slowly and that her rescuers saved her life.
