Pfc. Jessica Lynch, rescued Tuesday from an Iraqi hospital, fought fiercely and shot several enemy soldiers after Iraqi forces ambushed the Army's 507th Ordnance Maintenance Company, firing her weapon until she ran out of ammunition, U.S. officials said yesterday.

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
And Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, doth thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her,
Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 11: 38-42
It is not for us to judge what God has called each of us to do, nor what gifts he has given whom for what purpose.
Debate about women in combat is one thing, with cogent arguments on both sides. But to relegate women to the kitchen only is to make them slaves of men and not servants of God.
P.S. We have taken control of Baath Party Headquarters and Saddam's Palace in Baghdad.

Not a bad rack for a PFC. Now, there's a nice line to be taken out of context.

A couple of random thoughts on this brave young soldier:
1) To all those who say women should not be in combat I say neener, neener, neener.
2) The people of Palestine, WVA and all of us in rural America are very proud of PFC Lynch and know that her courage was, in part, instilled by good old-fashioned American values. I dare say that any of her male or female classmates at Palestine High would have tried to shoot their way to safety just as PFC Lynch. Urban costal elites just don't have the same fiber as those raised in the country.

But it would be wrong--terribly wrong and short-sighted--to use this isolated incident as a justification for making women a regular part of front-line combat forces.I don't see how it could possibly be used to justify putting women on the front line. She ran out of ammo, was captured, tortured, beaten, broken, raped, and who knows what else. If anything, this is a perfect see-I-told-you-so for the anti-women-in-combat crowd.

I hope that our president will present her medals personally. That would be very nice.

What is a hero?
Seriously, isn't a hero an ordinary person that overcomes extraordinary events they are thrust into?
She didn't go off on her own to hunt down an Iraqi general or Saddam insane?
No, She was simply driving a water truck as part of a convoy when someone took the wrong fork in the road and the shat hit the fan.
{sarcasm}Fighting for her life doesn't make her a hero,
being in the wrong place at the wrong time doesn't make her a hero,
Being shot, stabbed, starved, having three out of four of your limbs broken during torture doesn't make you a hero,
Heros are the guys that train for years to pull off the kind of rescues she benefitted from,
Men that could kill in their sleep,
Yeah she's not a hero,
She a victim of her sex
and always will be{/sarcasm}
{super mega sarcasm}she just a little girl who has no place in the army,
Just like Todd Beemer was just a passenger on Flight 93 {/super mega sarcasm}
