Let me understand this -- all the marble companies that the VA could possibly use, are owned by foreign firms?!

This obsessive anti-France posturing is becoming a caricature of itself. Surely there are more pressing issues around to be dealt with rather than rooting out French foods, French tombstones, and the like.
Conservatives used to rightly criticize Clinton for engaging in "symbolism over substance," but it seems some conservatives and "patriots" are indulging in their own symbol-fetishes, and making quite a public show of it, too. I suppose these anti-French displays are a quick and safe way of picking up a few votes among the rubes.

If Saddam uses chemical weapons, we could make it out of Iraqi glass that glows in the dark.

Agreed. This anti-french thing is ridiculous.
To: JohnHuang2
That's my Congressman! I have met him a number of times. He is a decent guy.

Just shut up. You are a newbie. Newbie's should really think twice before spouting off your qusai-liberal views here. Got it?
To: Bad_Samaritan
Why is it ridiculous to be repulsed by the idea of sponsoring fascism with our own money? Hey,some of us think there is a moral imperative not to help financially underwrite those regimes which prop up genocidal dictators. Everyone to their own conscience.

Agreed. This anti-french thing is ridiculous.Yes. I can understand maybe the government deciding that the French oil companies won't be able to get any lucrative contracts in Iraq after the war is over--that's just tit-for-tat politics and is to be expected. I have no problem with "low-key" decisions like that being made, and at least it'd be a mature, dignified, and substantial action.
But this shrill, low-class public display against the French has just gone overboard. It embarrasses the American people more than it shames the French.

Sorry, while I respect your views, you'll have to advance stronger arguments...
There is no way I'm gonna fund the French firms that in turn fund the French government. I believe in voting with my wallet. This may be sophomoric to you, but I sleep very well at night.

To: leilani

To: Hoppean
It is called making a statement in support of the America you seem to hate.

"This anti-french thing is ridiculous."I've decided I'm an anti-pro-French Freeper.
To: Hoppean
Venting our frustration with the Frogs by boycotting and making anti-French gestures is healthy.
French jokes are even better. And they've accomodated us by providing so very much material.
