Yes. I can understand maybe the government deciding that the French oil companies won't be able to get any lucrative contracts in Iraq after the war is over--that's just tit-for-tat politics and is to be expected. I have no problem with "low-key" decisions like that being made, and at least it'd be a mature, dignified, and substantial action.

But this shrill, low-class public display against the French has just gone overboard. It embarrasses the American people more than it shames the French.

I guess you didn't see the way the French spray painted the entryway into a military cemetary in France. Had you seen that this would make more sense to you. There was a busload of family members going to the cemetary on a once in a lifetime trip to see the tombstones of their family members when it was discovered. Bright red paint.
