George McGovern Says He Opposes Iraq War

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Former U.S. Senator and 1972 presidential candidate George McGovern is opposed to the invasion of Iraq, as he opposed U.S. participation in Vietnam when he was a first-term senator from South Dakota.
McGovern spoke at the Town Hall Interpretations lecture in North Platte, Neb., Tuesday.
He said he is not a pacifist, but thinks it would have been better to give arms inspectors another six months to seek the presence of weapons of mass destruction.
Now that the war is on, McGovern said, he hopes it is for the best.
The decorated World War II bomber pilot also said President George W. Bush is handling the war as well as could be expected.
McGovern said he hoped the fighting would end soon so the United Nations can go about the rebuilding of Iraq.
But McGovern's main message was on the problem of world hunger.
The one thing lacking to end hunger is political will, he said.
If the United Nations and the world's countries were committed to ending world hunger, they could be halfway to doing that within 30 years, McGovern said.

This is the part of the media bias that really pisses me off......where is the article interviewing George Patton's grandchildren talking about how Granddad would love to be alive and commanding troops right now?........where is the article asking Gen. McAulife's (tell them nuts) family what he would have thought about the war. Sorry AP, but who gives a $hit!!!
