Naw I think NG has had a leftist streak since at least the sixties. My parents had hundred of issues of old NGs in the basement that I always enjoyed reading. There was a cover article from the late 60s. It was about the "Cultural Revolution" and "Great Leap Forward" in Communist China. Whoever wrote that article swallowed all the garbage the ChiComs fed him w/out ever questioning it.

However, I do not think they were nearly as leftist as they are today. My favorite ad from the sixties was a Delta Airlines ad with the caption,"We have the prettiest stewardesses." You'd never see that today.

Thinking back, I have to agree that some articles leaned left.

I found the old ads fascinating, as I grew up then... particularly the 8mm and Super-8 movie camera ads- good Lord, the progress since then is staggering.
