Canada suffers fiscal fallout (Due to anti-war stand)

OTTAWA -- Canada is losing millions of dollars from corporate America because of the federal government's anti-war stand.

Anthony Pollard, president of the Hotel Association of Canada, said the U.S. cancellations explain, in no uncertain terms, they are not coming here because we are not backing the George W. Bush government.

"Very clearly, they say it's because of our lack of support for America. They have told us outright, 'We're not coming because of this,' " Pollard said.

Bus tour groups have also started to cancel trips, leaving Pollard worried the business trend will flow to the tourist market.

With 239,000 employees working in hotels across the country, Pollard is encouraging staff to write the federal government raising concerns.

"The chronic and sad fact is that we could be capitalizing on the U.S. visitor when they would typically wish to travel here as opposed to Europe and other overseas markets in times of and following global conflict," his letter to the government reads.

"Instead it appears as if we will miss this opportunity entirely."

Last year, more than 16 million Americans crossed the border to the north, pouring $8.5 billion into the Canadian economy.

Pollard also blames chronic anti-American rhetoric from politicians for straining relations.

If you look you'll find a huge majority are one generation or less removed from Ontario or the Maritimes.

I wasn't talking about ethnic descent, I was referring to attitudes and political voting patterns.

AGREED!! Snowyman is all bent outta shape because I don't care for Quebec. In fact, according to him I'm a bigot. Never once in my escoriation of Quebec did I say that every person in Quebec is bad. I know a couple of French Canadians who are nice. But Quebec as a whole has blackmailed the entire Country for far too long. THAT is a PROVEN FACT!!

My Dear Canadian neighbors. I wish I could say that I do not hold the good citizens of Canada responsible for their government's actions, but I do.

After all, Canada over the years, has chose to decrease their once wonderful military to a paltry 85,000 soldiers. You felt comfortable doing this because you knew we would always be there for you. You chose to spend your revenues on socialistic programs instead of self-defence, knowing that your good neighbors to the south would run to your aid if something ever happened.

Until you replace your government with a government that more closely mirrors the basic ideals of the Canadian citizens, you are just as much part of the problem as your feckless leaders.

Until the Canadian citizens become as empassioned as their American neighbors, we will continue to see a decline in the goodwill between the countries.

I for one, will continue to support those companies of those countries that are part of the coalition of the willing. England, Spain, Italy and Poland are just a few.

Unfortunately, many good Canadian companies and individuals will be hurt in the process, but until the funds that flow upwords to the corrupt officials is cut off, your government officials will continue with their anti-American and anti-Canadian rhetoric and actions.

The sooner you replace the liberals in your government, the sooner we can resume our close ties.

I think the rhetoric was almost the worst part, such venom from so many liberal politicians, I have never heard the likes of it.
There will be no need to expand our convention center, there won't be any use for it.

Yes, I am a perfect example. Wanted to revisit Paris, but decided many months ago, their behavior precluded any of my money being spent there. Thought Canada would be good alternative, and you could at least drive home, in the event of terrorism. Won't be visiting Canada, hope they wake up before it's too late. We're their best friend, back-door neighbor, and they could benefit from this, instead of cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Dittos in spades.

Thank God the good Americans have been paying attention to who our friends are. I hope they maintain this virtual boycott/slowdown for long enough to get the point across to the bloody liberal idiots who have been taking advantage of us, and that they remember the fallout of this the next time we ask for the assistance of our allies.

"Sucks to be a French colony at this time."

We'll deal with our Liberals as you continue to deal with your Democrats.

What "sucks" actually, is finding you lurking through CDN threads.....bashing and spreading your 'V'd.....at every given opportunity. Keep your disease to yourself.

You could use a big burly 'right-winger' following you into the boards.

Tighten your chin-strap.

And those you talk about in the West that "are one generation or less removed from Ontario or the Maritimes"......also happen to be people with the 'will and resolve' to seek something unknown and better, than what they knew.....from where they were.

Most are a different, daring breed.

Only in myth. No more than anyone else. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Sorry, but I've known many Westerners, socially and in business. I have many relatives west of Regina. Just like everyone else.

Don't be sorry.....get some practical experience. I've spent 15 yrs of my life in BC and Alberta.

They are a daring breed.

As you are not.

"We'll deal with our Liberals as you continue to deal with your Democrats."

Number of branches of government the Demorats control on the Federal level: Zero
Number of branches of government in my state the Demorats control: Zero

"What "sucks" actually, is finding you lurking through CDN threads."

Last time I checked, FR is an AMERICAN BOARD, using AMERICAN BANDWIDTH. Buy your own server if you hate me that much.

"Keep your disease to yourself."

That statement is more appropriate for Eurosocialism, the modern version of communism. Your nation is infested with it east of Thunder Bay. Perhaps you should spend a greater effort cleaning up your own house before worrying about what I say or do.

"You could use a big burly 'right-winger' following you into the boards."

That I am very concerned about. Not so much as a cross check, but I might catch SARS because your nation refuses to tighten immigration controls. I guess if another 3000 of our citizens or yours die, then maybe PM Yellow Stain might actually do something, but I doubt it. Grow up and get a life dude. WE endured the slams for 8 years. You can't handle it for 8 days, especially when your nation's government is 100% in the wrong, and the citizens and business owners are going to pay the price in the long term.

"Well, Whip-de-doo!"

You started disagreeing in post #18.

I've 'called' you on your knowledge which you've based on hearsay, not practical experience.......which might have helped you mature into becoming more coherent, and a less of a 'know it all' kinda guy.

So try growing-up and understanding that, erroneous claims are open to challenge.
