VIDEO REPORT: Oscars Freep Shows Us United; Ted Hayes confronts the left [Freeper Must-See TV!]

Free Republic goes to the Oscars, and boy did a lot of us show up! A huge crowd of us, chanting and waving flags, attended the Oscars and waved at the limousines going by.

But that's not the focus of this video. The most dramatic events of the day were in the evening, as leftists infiltrated our group and took over the corner as their own. You could see in his eyes that Ted Hayes was heartbroken as he took up the microphone to start his 7:00 vigil for the dead and oppressed in Iraq.

But mark the sequel ... (You'll have to watch the video to see how it came out!)

This is my best video yet. I hope you will view it and enjoy!

Note that you need QuickTime to view the video. If you don't have QuickTime, get it here. If you can hear the video but cannot see it, you don't have QuickTime and need to download it.

I wanted to ping the cute redhead who played Monica Lewinsky in one of our earlier demonstrations, but I don't remember her real name. Could someone be kind enough to do it for me?

And, as usual, there are a lot of great people whose names I didn't catch - please ping the usual lists as well.

I hope everyone enjoys the video!

Very interesting how the homeless guy was the eloquent one and that the "peace" activists had a hard time being "peaceful" ---at least that's how it seemed on the video. Love all the flags! It was a wonderful freep and thanks for the post!

You gave more airtime to Ted Hayes than KTLA.

Great to see more of the event.

Was wondering about your video clip of the girl with the sign "Make Love Not War" though...

did you "educate" her David???

LOL

It was Make Love and War, so she was on our side!

That was definitely my favourite sign of the event. Sadly, I was too swept away by the spirit of the event to proposition her. She would have been worth it, though.

I'd love to take her out to dinner if she's reading this :-).

I probably understated the amount of raw hostility in the air that night.

I really should show the videos I've taken of peace protests. There is definitely a hostile vibe in the air, even when they're unopposed. I think it has something to do with their hatred of President Bush.

It seems like they hate every Republican President who ever lived, even those (like Bush I) who were barely Republicans. Strange.

Not sure I'm buying that was a homeless guy. He seemed rather well-kempt, articulate, etc.

It was a nice trick, though, of him to try to get street cred by claiming such status.

"It seems like they hate every Republican President who ever lived..."

Want to drive leftists crazy? Refer to Abraham Lincoln as, "the great Republican president" or as, "the founder of our Republican party." Conversely, you can refer to democrats as the "party founded by the pro-slavery crowd." Another one I like to use on them is, "when the Republicans in Congress abolished slavery..."

Thanks to some curious legal loopholes, he is technically homeless.

He runs a homeless shelter called the Dome Village, which consists of a grouping of small domes. Each dome contains minimal sleeping accomodations; kitchen and bath facilities are shared. He lives in the same type of housing the other people in his shelter live in, with the exception that he has a whole dome instead of half a dome; one half is his living quarters and the other half is his office.

HUD's legal definition of a home includes various minimum requirements that the Dome Village does not meet. In fact, the Village required a special exemption from Mayor Riordan to be built at all, because it is technically substandard housing.

The result of this legal tangle is that Ted's dome is a tent per Hud regulations. As a result, Ted is technically homeless even though he has a perfectly solid roof over his head.

Prior to developing the Dome Village, he lived in a homeless encampment called Justiceville, where the conditions were often horrible. He engaged in a massive effort to bring them up to legal minimum standards, but was ultimately unsuccessful.

I would say that he has enough experience on or near the streets to have as much street cred as anyone, regardless of his current status.

Oscar Night Rally for the Troops
March 23, 2003

Watch the Video! (6mb, 2:55)

I usually put some sort of account of the event in this space, but in this case I really don't want to eliminate the surprise you'll get in the video.

The Oscars rally can be broken into two basic phases, which were very different.

During the daytime, there was strict police enforcement of barriers, and we were a completely united front, with only the occcasional left infiltrator to debate. RonDog was always trying to prevent us from debating them, noting that they wanted nothing more than to cause trouble and provoke a confrontation. But our natural feelings for them couldn't help but cause a few of us to confront evil. Our natural civility, though, kicked in pretty fast with Ron's help, preventing incidents and causing them all to go away pretty fast. At night, though, massive numbers of left people started invading our zone, probing our weaknesses. And weaknesses we had; most of us were starving, and we left for dinner, leaving Ted Hayes to fend for himself.

Fortunately, I had prudently lunched at the nearby Chinese place (food mixed; some great, some awful, but you couldn't ask for a nicer people) and had enough food in my belly to return at 7:00 for Ted's vigil.

Most of this video is what happened next ...

For those of you on SLOW connections (i.e., dial-up modems) - I strongly recommend that you RIGHT CLICK on this link:
Watch the Video! (6mb, 2:55)
...and then pick "Save Target As" to download a copy of this HUGE file (it took me TWENTY plus minutes using a 56k modem) to your hard drive, after which you can view (and RE-view) it more easily.
