The officers are bailing out [Do women belong in the military? (My title)]

Do they belong in the military?

1) According to The Washington Times, 16 percent of the female contingent on any warship are airlifted out during the course of a year as pregnancies become advanced.

2) In Bosnia, reports The Wall Street Journal, there was one new pregnancy every three days.

3) At basic training centers around the nation, Aberdeen, Fort Jackson, Fort Leonard Wood and the Great Lakes Training Center, extreme instances of sexual harassment have been reported. At the Great Lakes Center, five instructors were charged with gross misconduct, including throwing a mattress on the floor and ordering female recruits to undress. The only service to avoid sexual harassment problems is the Marines, which segregates the sexes.

There's a clue in here somewhere - - a possible solution.... Jeez... I just can't put my finger on it.

This is an important topic and needs discussion. But do we have to do it now?

The pill doesn't always work. Radical surgery (hysterectomies) are the ONLY certain form of female birth control. Period. (Forgive the double entendre.)

Editors of left wing papers are claiming female POW's are a victory for feminists. Yes, we need to arm conservatives with facts. Now. Or NOW will win.

This Mona Charen article is 4 years old but it is still relevent.

There must be a reason that, down thru history, tribes and nations (with very few desperate exceptions) have not sent their women off to war.

There is just something wrong with the soul of a nation that sends its daughters, its wives, its sisters, and its mothers off the meet the barbarians on the field of battle.

Something very wrong indeed.

Someone has to keep the home fires burning. A woman's place is in the home.

But do we have to do it now?

Unfortunately, it comes up in every deployment.

This issue is dead and buried.

I think we should leave it alone.

Using the pill for birth control is a sin.

Nothing wrong, just ask the ladies. Just try to take their right to serve in combat away from them!

LOL, make sure that I am not behind you when you do.

"There is just something wrong with the soul of a nation that sends its daughters, its wives, its sisters, and its mothers off the meet the barbarians on the field of battle."

And, you are absolutely right. It has been said that womankind is the vessel of mankind's continuance and, as such, womankind deserves the respect and the highest level of protection that can be afforded them.

I don't think women should be in combat on the battlefield. Well trained if she must be in the military but not facing a brutal enemy.

For those who find themselves pregnant, while on duty, doesn't show much discipline especially if it's out of wedlock.

Did I miss it, or have you not posted any articles explaining how the Bush administration has changed the Clinton policies on women and homosexuals in the military?

For crying out loud, how many threads are you going to start on this topic? I've seen 7 in just one page of new threads.

Can't this topic be discussed on ONE thread - or better yet - tabled until the bombs stop falling? What a waste of bandwidth and poor timing for such a discussion that NONE of us FReepers can do anything about at this time.

I served in the Air Force. Yes, women have a role in the military. No, not in ground combat units.

There, that's my opinion. You have yours. You are entitled to it. I am not going to waste any more of my time posting on your threads. There's a war on and I'm off to watch Fox and see the newest developments. And I'm going to support all our military members - men AND women.
