Pure, unadulterated BS. That's what passes for reporting at Reuters. This is nothing but sheer demagoguery, and it will continue to stir up the unthinking masses of ranting and raving lunatics. The flames of hatred across the Middle East continue to be fanned by the leftist press. Hopefully, every single mindnumbed Muslim will travel to Iraq to meet his end fighting the Great Satan.

The CIA World Factbook states there are 24 million Iraqi citizens. Leave it to the media to find one little girl to symbolicly prove why we should give up trying to liberate the other 23,999,999.
Yes war is hell. No we don't know US actions caused this. No it is not reasonable to give up rescuing nearly 24 million people because bad things happen.
The Press still chooses to ignore Hussein's constant abuse and genocide of hundreds of thousands of his own people, to focus on the handfull of problems we may or may not have caused.
Puck the fress!

Please point out the facts in the caption, other than the description of the girl's injuries.

Trust me I am the last person who goes around screaming bias, but look at the adjectives in the caption "slapped on" etc. it goes on and on.

All Saddam had to do was to cooperate with the UN and all. of. this. could. have. been. avoided.
THAT is what the media STILL WON'T SAY.
Hope this little girl's eye can be saved, and I hope her father when freed of his handcuffs can take care of his remaining family in a FREE IRAQ.

It's obscene the way leftists who don't give a DAMN about the Iraqi people try to smear and slander coalition forces by rubbing photos like this in our faces. They never bothered to take pictures of all the Iraqis who have been tortured and murdered by Saddam and his gangsters, but they're hunting all over Iraq for pictures of the victims of "American imperialism". God curse them.
Always remember: no matter how many people we accidentally injure or kill in Iraq, Saddam has deliberately injured and killed many, many more during his entire reign.

the problem is the bastards fighting for saddam are killing and wounding too many of their own people.
then to make matters worse the press keep twisting words and adding their own bias comments.
To: jern
Well, if I had a daughter looking like that, I'd probably be begging to be free as well.

Nobody's claiming the photo is faked. The bias is in the caption, which is pure editorializing. Obviously, it's a real photo of a young girl who is injured. How do we know the photo isn't being misrepresented? For all we know, this girl is a victim of Fedayeen who were shooting at civilians fleeing Basrah.

Apparently, reporting facts is now bias.Although astute Freepers such as yourself may be immune to it, there are subtle tricks here that are effective at manipulating less discerning readers.
The statement about the Marines flex-cuffing the father, without contextual information as to WHY they did that, makes the Marine's actions appear cruel. Is it possible the father's intentions were unclear to the Marines who had just been in a firefight and out of caution, they were restraining him until they could determine if it was safe? Might the father have been so distraught over his daughter that the Marines restrained him temporarily while he cooled down and allowed the corpsman to treat his little girl?
Use of the word "slapped" is anything but objective since "slapping" is something you do with metal handcuffs and not possible with the plastic flex-cuffs U.S. forces are using to restrain EPW's. Again, this word adds to the image of American cruelty the writer of that caption is trying to communicate.
One can argue that these tricks are not effective, or not so subtle, but it remains that they indicate bias. The cumulative effect of many such subtle and not-so-subtle tricks has a tremendous effect.

Agreed. The mother is dead, the father is screaming for his child.
I am sure that after the chaos was under control, they let the Iraqi father see his daughter.
The soldiers followed sound operational procedure.
The area must be secured. The Fedeyeen have been very busy and precautions have to be kept.
We secured the area and THEN let the parent go to his child.
Reuters wants us to leave the area unsecured so that the reuinion can take place 5 minutes earlier. Pathetic.

So, you automatically believe that her father was being handcuffed by marines and prevented from hugging his daughter. Idiot. If that were true, the photographer would have taken a picture of it. Instead, he takes a close-up of an injured girl and then tells us whatever fiction he felt like creating to further his leftist agenda.
