Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I saw the report about Saddam's bodyguard, but I wasn't at a computer. I noticed something that wasn't remarked on.
When introducting the video, Brett said, "Look at this press conference. There is something defense analysts noticed ....". Before he pointed out the bodyguard, I noticed THERE WAS NO PICTURE OF SADDAM BEHIND THE PODIUM! That's what I thought Brett was going to say. Then he pointed out the bodyguard.
Did anyone else notice there was no portrait????

Shep sometimes sounds like some of Drudge's headlines.

I found something funny earlier today...
I went to the gym and they have TVs there with the news on, well they had FNC on with closed captions on the screen
Everytime they said Baghad on the channel, the Closed captions wrote it as "Bag-dead", subliminal messages maybe??? Just seemed curious
To: Timeout
good observation...but if it was the one from today, they had to broadcast from an alternate location since we bombed the ministry of disinformation last night.

I should point out that the term "technical" for an armed pickup or jeep was first used in Somalia. Our guys picked it up during the "peacekeeping" operation.

According to Shep he has a hitch in his satellite get-a-long.

I didn't catch it .. but if true that is very telling. Saddams Bodyguard is now standing behind Ramalamadingdong and no Saddam picture -- hmmmmm - a new sheriff in town? Or more Hollywoodish - a signal to "certain people" that they are ready to "communicate".

Sure, but would they not have plenty of Saddam posters around that they could have used? I think that's an interesting point, perhaps they are getting their public ready for an announcement. We can only hope.

Fox - Greg Kelly reporting that they were relieved by the 101st at their previous location and so moved out. CAS overhead. "More close air support than we know what to do with". Most people with him didn't have "down time". Went almost straight from one mission into this one. Lost signal.
Shep says that some troops are already forward. These are the troops that will be stopping forward progress.

Shep on FoxNews just asked about "how cold". According to David Bloom a few minutes ago on MSNBC, the day temp has been varying between upper 70's and low 80's; nite temp low 50's. FYI.

You are assuming though that a coup (whether Saddamn has been killed/Saddamn has died of wounds) is going to be "better"/"more civilized" than the old regime.
Not that the new regime could get much worse, but they not be much better.
To: Robert A. Cook, PE
Very true, but I am also making a big assumption that we have "friends" behind the coup.

"Senior Pentagon official says, 'We know who is with us and we know who is against us; this regime will fall from the inside out.'" Just out from Shep on Fox.

What's he saying? Strange to watch this war without a TV...

Those are tough temperatures but it applies to both sides.

Weather reports two nights ago had Bagdad at 34 degrees at night, 60 daytime. That's cold enough.
Snow (lots of it) on the mountains behind the guys up north today.
To: Consort
Shep is "passionate". I enjoy him. Sometimes his mouth and his brain operate totally independently of each other. lol.

a tank on the other side would fire at the barrels, causing the CW to disperse. We may be waiting for a change in the direction of wind flow. If we attack when the wind is blowing to the North or North East then any bio-chem attack would blow back to Baghdad.
