Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Why would people handling oil be in full MOP-4 gear?

Was the Third ID south of Karbala? If so, they are evidently in a much drier environment, maybe going between Karbala and the western shore of Bahr al Milh?...looking for a link to a map....it's really too much for me, you know. I've barely figured out which "stan" is which.
To: Tree of Liberty
Fox - idiot stating that the 50 gallon drums probably didn't contain chemicals, thinks they contained oil.
Weren't the Iraqis who were moving these barrels wearing chem-suits? If the barrels contained non-chems, why wear the suits??????
To: merrin
What if they just intended to open the barrels, and let the prevailing wind carry the substance towards our troops?
That would be Saddam's idea of a high-tech delivery system.
To: Green
Sounded like kindred spirits, at the very least.

"I have a hard time believing he would be able to stay away from the camera giving a live broadcast to the world. The man's ego is too big to stay hidden from the camera.
Clinton's managed it..."
Yes but Clinton as much as we may hate him has a future to look out for, not to say he didn't get the name Slick Willy for nothing.
To: Tree of Liberty
I have no idea what they werre handling, or why they were wearing chem suits. But I can't imagine that troops in the field would be sent big barrels of chemical weapons, any more than they are sent buckets of high explosive for their grenades.

Exactly my point in #2401
To: Tree of Liberty
Perhaps we should pronounce "Iraqi" "Uruk-hai"
To: Henchster
What if they just intended to open the barrels, and let the prevailing wind carry the substance towards our troops? Not a very effective delivery system, I wouldn't think.

There's a lot that this regime has done that hasn't made one wit of sense. Good grief....shooting at a tank with an AK47? I don't look for logic to guide anything they do.

One of the analysts on Fox a couple days ago (I think it was David Christian) said that it's standard Soviet doctrine to put these chemical barrels at the flanks of a mine field. As we approach, a tank on the other side would fire at the barrels, causing the CW to disperse. That would force us to go straight into the mines if we continued to advance.
To: Tree of Liberty
OK. Then maybe it does make sense.

Hi everyone. I left for work at 6am and just got home. Did I miss anything major today?
(besides belly girl?) :)
To: Tree of Liberty
Of course that will only work if the Iraqi's actually have a Tank still functioning --LOL

Saw a talking head analyst the other day that stated that the munitions were loaded with the bio/chem material just before use. The munitions are stored empty of the bad stuff. Sounded like a technical operation.

Fox - Bret Baer is out on a date. Before leaving, he said that sources told him "we know who's with us, and who's against us, and we're in constant communication". This was intended for broadcast, not given on background.

I have a question. Why are pickup trucks with a gun mounted on the back called 'technicals'. Thank You.

LOL
