This guy is very lucky.
The 7th Cav must be in a real hot area, they've taken some hits during the past couple of days.

Isn't halon an oxygen scavenging system, therefore not appropriate for confined occupied areas?

Isn't halon an oxygen scavenging system, therefore not appropriate for confined occupied areas? You are correct.

I agree......why are we feedin these terrorists and starving the front lines...we need to take off the gloves and not waste one more drop of precious american blood, think about it before a massacre and then they draft you!

Unless they've modified the design, the Abrams series has a halon fire suppression system in the driver's area and engine compartment. It can inhibit oxygen flow, but the bottles are discharged very rapidly, and I believe the rationale was that if you've got fire, there is a source of oxygen. If you're in a burning tank, you'll probably be holding your breath anyways. It's just easier to get out if the flames have been extinguished.
It'll be 10 years this October since I've been on an Abrams #8-(. I was branch detailed to the MP Corps after my first two years as an Armor Lt.)

They're 1,000s of Audie Murphys out there in this day and age. The training is far superior and that's the secret. How else would someone overcome the paralyzing fear caused by this incident?
