NEW YORK (AP) -- Major league baseball teams will pay tribute to the U.S. armed forces and the nation by having "God Bless America" sung during the seventh-inning stretch of all home openers.
While the song had been part of all games since the Sept. 11 attacks, it will be sung this season only at the home openers, Sunday games and holidays, the commissioner's office said Friday.
Baseball also announced an agreement with Armed Forces Radio and Television Service to carry eight to 10 games each week during the season, starting with Sunday night's opener between Texas and Anaheim.

Get ready for the ACLU to squeal like stick pigs over this. Perhaps their buddy's, the Pro-Saddam Protesters will stage opposition as well.

I don't believe that an ACLU protest is likely unless this is the result of a government action (such as a mandate or proclamation).

I certanily hope not. I remember after 9/11 a bunch of crazies started trying to change the national anthem - too militaristic

I'm pleased by this. However, I hope we can still sing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" as well...

And at the Astros game, we sing:
Take me out to the ball game
and then:
The Stars at Night
are big and bright
Deep in the Heart of Texas.
I will be proud to sing America the beautiful.
To: kattracks
Terrific! It's a lot easier to sing than the Star Spangled Banner.

They are cutting back the games where they will sing "God Bless America" and they brag on that?
Or did I mis-read something?

Wait a minute... So they are going to be playing it LESS this year. Where is was played every game after 9/11 and only on special days this coming year ?
This decision is disappointing.

Here in Milwaukee, after 6 1/2 painfull innings of watching the Brewers blow it, we sing Take me Out, and
Roll Out the Barrel!
