NDIANAPOLIS -- Across the nation, black males tend to lag behind their high school classmates. Washington Township Superintendent Eugene White is confronting the problem head on, singling out black male students and chastising them for their poor performance in school.

I suspect that part of the reason that this story was published in the Boston Globe was because the "admonisher" who is black has the name White - and the message will be, in Jesse Jackson's Black America, that this guy speaks for White America and is just another example of how White America degrades the hard working black students...

...but the real message is low expectations lead to low performance.

Only in America can a black man be called a racist for speaking about his own people. This guy is a leader for stepping up and demanding more or young black men. There are simply too few people like him who are willing to call it like they see it instead of buying into the hypcrisy and lies of Jessie Jackson.

Oh, and I love the comments from the guy who said that factors such as poverty and growing up with a single parent are causes. That sounds like an insult to hard working single mothers out there who put it all on the line for their kids. Face it, plenty of suburban white kids from good homes slack off too.

Consider all of these comments . . .

"Right now, you're putting too many things ahead of education,"

"You have the potential to be great students. But you've got to start taking harder classes."

"There is nobody dumb here, but there are a lot of lazy people here,"

"I think parents drop out of school before the kids drop out of school,"

"No parent should ever leave education entirely in the hands of the school."

"You're in school. I run this school, and I meet with you when I want to."

. . . that could never be openly stated by anyone except a black schools superintendent. There was an op-ed column by a retired black criminal court judge in a New Jersey newspaper a few years ago that was similar in nature. And right on target, too.

worrying too much about clothes, jobs, and partying. ''Right now, you're putting too many things ahead of education,'' he said

Add this also!

1. Trying to be a gangster rap star.

2. Listening to their parents tell them they are being discriminated against.

3. Being encouraged to speak a language only they understand.

4. Being taught they are not responsible for their actions.

5. It's always the white system's fault.

6. Taught to listen to the current batch of failed leaders.

7. NAACP is part of the problem.

8. Black Caucus is another part of the problem.

9. Stop trying the quota system will pick you up.

10. Stop trying so hard we will lower the standards.

Wow! I want this guy in our schools here in Vicksburg, MS.

I have recently had the "pleasure" of being a substitute teacher and study hall monitor in the local high schools. I'm white, so I'm certain that I'm a racist. Obligatory, right?

The behavior I endured, the arrogance and foolishness, the disobedience, the RACISM on the part of the black students was very disheartening. Oh, as usual, there were exceptions and these students will do well in whatever endevour they pursue.

Black society no longer has anyone but itself to blame.

Since last fall, students have shown progress. In standardized testing, about 55 percent of black sophomore boys passed language arts in 2002, compared with a state average of 33 percent, for example. And nearly 60 percent passed the state's math tests, compared with the state average of 33 percent.

Damn, we can't have that! RACISM!!

Achievement is a white thing - you can't ask the brothers to "act white".
