Letter from Marine In Iraq 'To The Great City of Chicago'
NBC5 TV station email ^ | 3-25-03 | Lance Corporal Gomez, Daniel

Posted on 03/27/2003 4:42:48 PM PST by CHICAGOFARMER

Just a few days ago, we had our first fallen American, a Marine. I pray we all come home safely. But I know that if I have to, I will give my life for this country and all it stands, and so will all the Marines that are out here with me. I also pray that we all return home soon, whether it is to San Diego, St. Louis, New York City, Franklin Park, Chicago or any other great city or town across the country.

But I am prepared to be here as long as I have to. My Staff Sergeant, Staff Sergeant Godfrey G. Marille who is also out here -- his wife just had a beautiful baby girl. He has yet to see her, but I bet he can't wait to finally hold her in his arms.

I know most of us won't be coming home to a hero's welcome. Nor are we asking for one. We don't consider ourselves heroes. We are only doing what is our duty to our country.

If I am fortunate to return to United States alive, once I am able to go home, I will try my best to get to know my neighbors and as much of my neighborhood as I can. Especially because I have seen a few who fly the Marine Corps Flag high and proud over their homes. And to them, I would like to say thank you.

Semper Fi,

Lance Corporal Gomez, Daniel The World's Finest United States Marine Corps

Those sorry SOB's Michael Moore and Martin Sheen aren't worthy to clean the latrines for the military. This young marine has more character in his little finger than all spineless Hollywood has in its big mouth.

Amen! It is so sad that a man of this quality has to feel that he is not considered a hero. Damn Hollywood! Everyone get out there and support our troops! God bless them, everyone of them!!

Son, you ARE a hero and most of us know that. It's shameful that so many protestors have given you the impression that this country won't welcome you back with a true hero's welcome. We will.

We know your sacrifice, and we appreciate it.

The vast majority of us plain folks..former combat vets of other wars..our families thank you.. and will welcome you with open arms You can bet..that the nation will roll out the red carpet as long as GW Bush is president.. The ungratefull lying communist left wont...but who cares...they are leeches anyway..not worthy of ones time.. If they show up at the party...they will get a rude awakening...there will be few war protesters at any Coming Home Party...and if there are they wont last long...

I guess I'm going to go to the USMC recruiter station and ask if they can order me some USMC colors for display on my flag pole.

You can purchase flags at your local Military Surplus store, or off of the Internet.

We are flying one on the front of our house right now.
