No easy way to get there without a car. This section of Main Street, strictly residential (mostly Orthodox Jewih), is south of Jewel ave. and north of Union Tpke, just east of the Van Wyck. The closest subway, I think, is the E or F Queens courthouse stop. From there it's a good fifteen minute walk. I don't ride buses so I can't help with that.

I just called the councilman's office for directions and they gave me the exact address of the Library as
72-33 Vleigh Place
Kew Gardens Hiills, NY
I'm going to try and look it up on Yahoo Maps/directions but in the meantime, the girl I spoke with said it will look on the map like it is on Main Street but it is not, it is actually on Vleigh Place where 72nd Road and 72nd Avenue come together. It is RIGHT near Main Street though.
I know the 7 train to Queens will get one into Flushing, it's the last stop. Right upstairs one would take the Q44 city bus (going towards Jamaica, not towards the Bronx Zoo)which travels down on Main Street which will take you right to Vliegh Place/72nd Road/72nd Avenue. If you ask the bus driver he will surely know where the library is located.
In addition, anyone taking a bus from Kew Gardens can catch the Q74.
If Driving: take the Midtown tunnel to Queens and follow the signs for the LIE (Long Island Expressway). Get off at the Main Street exit and go south (turn left onto Main Street). Follow Main Street until you find the Library at the above specified location. OR a driver can come over the Queensborough/59th Street Bridge to Queens and stay on Queens Blvd upon exiting the bridge until you come to the LIE. Take the LIE EAST towards Long Island and follow the exit instructions above.
From L.I. take the LIE West (towards NYC) to the Main Street exit and upon exiting go south by making a left turn onto Main Street and proceed to the streets/location listed above.
OR, you can take the Northern State Parkway East (towards NYC) to the 168th Street Exit and then once exited remain on the parkway service road (going past 168th street, past 164th Street, past Parsons Blvd) until you get to Main Street. Turn RIGHT onto Main Street and keep going until you arrive at the above described location.
Hope this helps!

The closest subway, I think, is the E or F Queens courthouse stop Oh yes, I forgot about the E or the F. This would be another way to get there from Manhattan or other boroughs and take the same bus as from the 7 train but it is approaching from the opposite direction. I personally don't know much about the E train since they split it off from F years ago so if anyone else knows where to get off the E train to get to Sutphin Blvd, I know the Q44 going towards the Bronx Zoo STARTS right there at the corner of Sutphin Blvd and Archer Avenue, right outside the Jamaica LIRR Station (Duh....ONE CAN TAKE THE LIRR FROM PENN STATION TO JAMAICA STATION TOO OF COURSE!).
The Q44 going toward the Bronx Zoo will take one right up Sutphin Blvd, turn on Jamaica Avenue for 3 blocks or so, turn up onto 150th Street to the top of the hill which is Grand Central Parkway (Northern Parkway to Long Islanders). At that point the bus will go around in a U to go over the parkway overpass and turn onto Main Street. Then it's just a few blocks from there. I would estimate the bus ride from the LIRR/E train to be about 25 minutes or so....haven't rode it in years but that's my guess.
If coming on the F train you go towards Queens, then you take it to the Sutphin Blvd stop. Go upstairs and catch the Q44 city bus going towards The Bronx Zoo. You can catch it on the corner right where you come up.....Sutphin Blvd and Jamaica Avenue. It will take the same route described right above.

Well, what I posted above is RIGHT OFF THEIR FLYER and they are inviting co-sponsors so I would think so. The phone number for more info and to co-sponsor is listed at the bottom. Go for it! It would be great to have dem groups and FR jointly sponsoring an AMERICAN event like this. Even if we don't agree on other issues we ALL agree on supporting the troops in this instance. It would also give FR more exposure since I'm sure any politicians attending are alerting all the media/press.

Please post an after-action report with photos if possible. We are compiling the photos for a CD Tribute, and keeping a running list of pro-Troop events for media exposure.
Please ping A Navy Vet, Bob J, and diotima. Thank you.
