FREEDOM OF SPEECH SHOULD BE A 3 WAY STREET MARK A SITY 3/27/03
Not long ago Chicago had a major pro-Saddam rally. Fine, if they want to show their undying support for a brutal, genocidal dictator, in an attempt to allow him to develop atomic weapons to unleash on the world, that is their right to do so. I also have a right to show my support for the effort to remove him from power, if I had time to go to a Pro-US rally. Sadly, I don't have that much time to spare; I have to work for a living. It should be noted that many of these "protesters" also work; many of them are paid to protest. If you look through the "help wanted" section of your local paper you will probably find a few ads that start something like "ACTIVIST CAREERS"; many of these people answered these ads, marching in the latest left wing "protest" is how they "earn" their living. This is nothing more than an attempt to boost numbers by having a core base of leftists who can attend any protest anywhere. Most of us in the center or to the right of it actually work real jobs. I'm sure some on the left have real jobs also, but I have been beginning to wonder how many.
What prompts this post is actually a story I read from NYC, the Pro-Saddam rally there this week blocked streets, preventing people with real jobs from getting to or from them. The Chicago rally did the same, both downtown on the "Magnificent Mile, and before that on Lake Shore Drive. For those of you who are lucky enough to be even less familiar with Chicago than I, LSD is the major artery for the Upper East Side. It is the end of I-55N and to the best of my memory is almost a freeway, when I-55N ends in downtown Chicago, if you don't exit you'll be on LSD (alright, that came out poorly; Lake Shore Drive). With the traffic on the upper east side of Chicago (trust me on this; the city streets there are scary, major bad driver alert!), if LSD is shut down so is the entire Upper East Side. I doubt pedestrians are allowed on LSD, yet these sheeple shut it down in both directions with their "protest". When they were dispersed from there they moved downtown and shut down (I think) Michigan Ave; another main artery
I didn't get much info on the NYC Pro-Saddam rally, just a headline that they shut down streets. I have never been to NYC, but I am quite sure that shutting down even one major street would cause massive traffic problems. Doing so could even be life-threatening if there were a fire, or someone had an illness and needed to get to a hospital or have an ambulance sent to them. Tying up the police also could cause innocent death; I can't think of a better time for a murderer or armed robber to commit his crime. I can't think of a better time for a terrorist to act for that matter.
A counter demonstration will not end the tactic of the Pro-Saddam crowd of shutting down cities or businesses by blocking traffic. We need a new law, giving those impacted by such immoral tactics the right to run them over. Their right to free speech ends where the grill of my truck begins! When free speech is in the street, it should be understood that that street has become a 3 way street.
Sure, these fools have a right to free speech, and a right to demonstrate in favor of letting Saddam get atomic weapons; although one has to wonder what these sheeple have against the Iraqi people. I also have a right to free speech. However, we all also have a right to travel freely. I have a right to get to and from work, or to take my sick child to the doctor. Their right to free speech ends when it impacts the rights of others, or the grill of my truck!

I fully agree. In fact, we could reward them with free license renewal or something.
If you catch my drift... ;-)
