***Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - Day 8 - LIVE THREAD***
Various | 3/27/2003 | Me

Posted on 03/26/2003 9:04:14 PM PST by Centurion2000

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Can't be. The BBC is claiming that coalition forces are facing the toughest fighting yet, that they're being bombarded by Iraqi artillery, that the Pope has declared this Sunday to be Honor Sadam Hussein Day, etc. etc. etc., yada yada ya.

SADDAM'S DEADLY PLAN

May have been posted before but some interesting "facts":

"Major General Dan Leaf, the chief US Air Force officer in the headquarters of the allied land command, said:"
* Baghdad has been ringed with air defences more formidable than the 1991 Gulf War. [which are now gone]
* Almost all Iraq's heavy weaponry has been pulled back to Baghdad to protect the capital. [except for those 1000 armored vehicles moveing south!]
* Baghdad is packed with surface-to-air missiles, heavy machine guns and anti-aircraft artillery. [which we reduce with every bomb attack]
* Trenches surrounding the city have been filled with oil ready to be set ablaze to hamper British and US air strikes. [been real effective so far!!]
* Clusters of anti-aircraft artillery have also been deployed along possible attack routes for cruise missiles. [also very effective!]

"It is a hornet's nest right now. There is nothing subtle about it," General Leaf told the New York Times. I'd say that, if this were a hornet's nest before, it is now reduced to the status of mosquitoes.

"It is very difficult to sift thru pages & pages of OT to find a few posts on topic."

I just skim the first few words...if it says "Belly," or has a reference to a food or city, I just scroll down to the next post.

Takes all of .5 seconds!

I was on another Live thread about the Iraqi ministers speech & some were wondering on there, why he kept saying that the coalition did something to the water supply in Basra! Wonder if, as I read here earlier, they did something to it, that they want to blame on us? Bio or Chem?

Someone at the press conference thread mentioned the possibility that small pox or some other germ or chemical was put into the water supply in Basra and that's why the Iraqis high-tailed it out of there. Now they're accusing the coalition of poisoning the water.

What's that all about and has this been talked about anywhere else?

oh for the love of God. I have been on this site since 97' and signed up in 98'. I know what this site is about. Look what has happened to this thread since this nonsense began. There will always be a few whiners and they have come and gone for SIX years. This site is about politics, activism, and fun. You want to talk about children? These threads will die if they are based soley on news. The fact of the matter is, the news is NOT breaking that fast. The thread was fine, so the CHILDREN need to stop complaining and go with it.

Just trying something here.

In regard to the flag:
Between the field where the flag is planted there are 9+ miles of
flower fields that go all the way to the ocean. The flowers are grown
by seed companies. It's a beautiful place close to Vandenberg AFB.
Checkout the dimensions of the flag. The 2002 Floral Flag is 740 feet
long and 390 feet wide and maintains the proper Flag dimensions as
described in Executive Order #10834. This Flag is 6.65 acres and is
the first Floral Flag to be planted with 5 pointed Stars comprised of
White Larkspur. Each Star is 24 feet in diameter; Each Stripe is 30
feet wide. This Flag is estimated to contain more than 400,000
Larkspur plants with 4-5 flower stems each for a total of more than 2
million flowers. You can drive by this flag on V Street south of Ocean
Ave. in Lompoc, CA

Iranian News agency is reporting that Iraqi presidential guards are keeping civilians from leaving the city and using them as human shields. Same news agency also reporting that Iraq launched their own missile deliberately on that market....Sky News via an "Iranian News agency"

I saw on foxnews.com that Pres. Bush is calling up another 30,000 troops. Has anyone heard if this is really because the Pentagon is expect the war in Iraq to drag out longer than expected or is it a move to make N. Korea back down? I mention NK because they ceased 'talking' with the US, which technically ends the the cease-fire that closed the Korean War.

"Then maybe I could find out where to get a good Philly Cheese Steak in Central Calif.!"

Not possible. Sorry. You could make your own in a hand-hammered wok, an oven and a little aluminum foil with heavy amounts of real butter for the hoagies...dang, I need to eat breakfast. Maybe a Denver 'homlet'. With a side of hash and some churiso.
