Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

how do you get out of a jam ... [you rely on your] relief pitcher who saves his 200 mph fastball for when he's got the bases loaded, no outs, and 3-0 count.)
Yup... and in this action, we KNOW we have the best relief pitchers to do that job, and it gives us a whole lot of latitude a military force seldom is blessed with.

"No, Rummy didn't. The media and their retired "experts" made up this idea that we could waltz in there and take over a country in a few days. Now the press is upset that the real world is not living up to their nintendo view of things. Media expected a sanitized war where Iraqi people embrace us as liberators and the Republican Guards throw their hands up and surrender. Since it is not quite turning out that way it must be the military's fault, right? Disagree.
Nobody EVER actually said that this would be a cakewalk and there would be no casualties and that the war would be over in a week.
The media and the democrats and the international socialists (up until the attack itself!) were saying that WE would be involved in a catastrophe and Saddamn would kill thousands of our troops, and that WE would kill thousands of "innocent" Iraq children and hundreds of thousands of civilians and that WE would need thousands of body of bags in this "quagmire."
The administration definitely never said anything about it being easy or short.
Now that we are at war, the MEDIA are PRETENDING that the ADMINISTRATION had said it would be short and sweet and simple and over in a matter of hours.
See the difference?

The 400,000 children have died in the past 5 years. The anti-war crowd doesn't give a damn.

But let´s just accept that tactics have to change and that we have to forget SnA now. Right? So ... in your opinion, what is "shock" and what is "awe" in this part of the plan?
Bombing can certainly inspire awe (and dread). But I'm thinking "Shock" hasn't even been used yet.
Consider: we (and the Iraqis) have no idea what's happening to the north and west, and there are large bodies of Allied troops whose whereabouts are completely unknown.
"Shock" is what one feels when those troops suddenly appear where they're not expected.

Agnew called them imprudent snobs. He was right then and they still are.
We are dealing with very unsubstantial people, and the American people should let their local affiliates know exactly how they feel about these misfits and lowlifes.

Leadership! That's what these two guys exude.
I had a potential job that I let go because the owner made an off-hand comment that he was worried about our lack of leadership in Washington (right after the SOTU address). I couldn't imagine working for a guy who doesn't recognize good leadership when it's right before his eyes.

I don't want to play nice w/ the UN. I want Kofi and Hans in jail or on the front lines in Iraq.

Blair was great. Very impassioned.
Does anyone else watch Questions for the Prime Minister on C-Span? It repeats on Sunday nights. I love watching parliment! They get so rowdy and get in these great jabs at each other.

If we trust the UN with Iraq's money and its rebuilding, Iraq is screwed.

As far as new call ups... why take someone away from their families (and incur the expense to them, their family, their business, the country) if you are just going to have them sit around in a waiting area. That's the old time way to do business... now all successful business tries to get inventory on hand when they need it, and insofar as practical, not before. This is the same concept.
Exactly!

S&A has been entirely misunderstood by the media and general
public. I'm not going to have to get into it now (gotta run
soon) but may discuss this in the future. S&A has not at all failed.

Children's deaths - I heard "one year", or "over this last year".
