CHINA READIES FOR FUTURE U.S. FIGHT March 26, 2003 CNN reports: "The Iraqi war has convinced the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership that some form of confrontation with the U.S. could come earlier than expected. Beijing has also begun to fine-tune its domestic and security policies to counter the perceived threat of U.S. 'neo-imperialism.' As more emphasis is being put on boosting national strength and cohesiveness, a big blow could be dealt to both economic and political reform. That the new leadership has concluded China is coming up against formidable challenges in the short to medium term is evident from recent statements by President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao. Hu indicated earlier this year Beijing must pay more attention to global developments so that 'China make good preparations before the rainstorm ... and be in a position to seize the initiative.' Wen also pointed out in the first meeting of the State Council, or cabinet, last Saturday the leadership 'must keep a cool head.' 'We must boost our consciousness about disasters and downturns -- and think about dangers in the midst of [apparent] safety,' he said

a friend of mine who served in the Canadian reserves (48th Highlanders) in the early 90s told me much of their training was in preparation for fighting the Chinese. Take that for what it's worth, but they're a proud unit.

china isn't capable of attacking the us in the forseeable future. its simply impossible. the only place china could fight us is on the asian mainland, or maybe in japan.A couple of megatons hidden in the hold of a COSCO ship berthed at the new LA facility would take out a big chunk of Southern California. Do you seriously believe that they would NOT do so?

You won't get a response discouraging ANY Chinese development in California.
Dianne Feinstein will make sure of that - she and her husband have millions riding on Chinese trade with the U.S.

You could add that it would be near impossible to trace it back to them as well.

And you are correct...China has never made any bones about conquering the USA. Last I read, China was well on it's way to beating us as the world's leading economic power. They claimed it would take 20 years, but things are progressing so well that now they advise it will be under 10.And Arthur Andersen verified their numbers, right?

And, just out of idle curiousity, what, EXACTLY, would China gain in return for detonating a thermonuclear bomb in Long Beach? What price would they pay in exchange?
In short, please give us a coherent theory of victory for the Chinese in the scenario you describe.

Why does everyone think it will be a military attack? An economic attack is far more likely. With Greenspan, Bernahke, and the rest of the band of arrogant apparatchniks at the Fed trashing out the dollar, an economic attack seems more likely. What would happen if China decided to convert their currency to a gold standard? How many foreigners would be interested in owning paper US dollars?

If a nuke was to blow up in a US port, what are the chances we would be able to tell exactly where it came from?

If a nuke was to blow up in a US port, what are the chances we would be able to tell exactly where it came from?Close enough to unity that the odds of us NOT identifying the source of the device are roughly on a par with the odds of me hitting the gazillion dollar slot machine jackpot in Vegas...AFTER I get a date with Jennifer Love Hewitt.
A large enough device to destroy a large area limits the likely source down to a very few countries. The fallout products are easily identified by their unique trace elements.
