Despite our many differences of opinion, I always have had a soft spot in my heart for Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

He was a great American.

Are you serious?

Yup.

Amen! He was one of the last honest Democrats. Alot of what he says and wrote made alot of sense. Even when I thought he was wrong, he didn't generally get involved in demonization and demogogary.

May he Rest In Peace.

I seem to remember Monihan supporting Hillary Clinton's run for the Senate in New York State. That was enough for me. I really don't care about his death or him.

And I'm so very sorry for all the horribly unkind posts here. Daniel Patrick Moynihan was a TRULY decent man, who deserves his country's gratitude for his many years of outstanding service. I'm not jewish, but the guy was a real mensch - whether you were demo or repub, you can't deny - he was a world-class American.

His support made her Senate seat a reality. Poor old drunk! He had his good points, but they were trumped by his failure in the Felon's impeachment "trial" and votes for various other RAT policies and his obvious socialistic tendencies. RIP!

If the country listened to him on welfare and the family in the late 60's/early 70's... we would be in alot better shape as a people

Be careful. A similar comment about another Senator (Strom Thurmond) cost Trent Lott dearly!

By the way, has anyone spotted Senator Lott in the past 45 days?

I'm sorry that he died, but for her to break the news of his passing to the world bothers me

I'll add my voice to those honoring this man. He was a good friend of my teacher, the late sociologyist James S. Coleman. Coleman was a conservative and often spoke of Moynahan's support for school choice and other conservative educational measures.

He was actually on at least one of the Sunday talk shows a couple of weeks ago.

Sad.

NYS lost a good one - a home grown son with class.

A google search turned up a Potato Dill Soup recipe by the Senator. Scholar/Senator/Chef. Will make this soup this weekend & make a toast to my ex-senator.

Senator Daniel P. Moynihan - rest in peace. My condolences to his family.

When did he stand up for GW?

The day before he was rushed to the hospital!

I believe Russert worked at different times for both Moynihan and Cuomo.

Does this mean that another Democrat funeral/rally is in the works? Can they book Madison Square Garden and broadcast it on all the TV channels?

I remember an old political cartoon of Moynihan when he resigned as US rep to the UN.
A horde of fanatical Arabs in the UN are screaming, jumping with swords drawn threatening Moynihan who is standing, sticking out his tongue at them.
Below this is OLD EUROPE setting at a table drinking wine and declares..."Oh that Moynihan! He's so crude!

I didn't care for his politics but he at least appeared to be a gentleman.

Moynihan is gone now! The day before he was rushed to the Hospital Moynihan violated protocol

He came out very strong for Bush I wish I could find what he said for it was unbelieveable!

I am sure the red dipper doper babies filled their drawer!

If I had nexus I could fine it! It was in the last couple of weeks!

I had the good fortune to have him as a professor in my college days.

He was a wonderful lecturer--brilliant, entertaining, always with new and interesting ways of talking about how government worked in the real world.

After hearing him speak it was very clear why presidents of both parties sought his advaice and opinions.

While I disagreed with him on many things I always admired his intellect and grace.

Does the Democrat Party have anyone of his stature today? I doubt it.

She's just plain not worthy of anything.
