Manager: No More Apologies From Dixie Chicks
Fallout Continues From Controversial Bush Comment
POSTED: 9:39 a.m. EST March 26, 2003
The manager of the Dixie Chicks says singer Natalie Maines is through with her apologies for a controversial comment she made in a London concert about President George W. Bush.
Texas-native Maines (pictured, far right) told the audience earlier this month, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
Simon Renshaw told the trade paper Radio and Records that Maines has already issued two strongly worded statements for making the comments, and right now, he doesn't think that "Natalie can win."
Maines posted an apology on the group's Web site March 14, saying she was disrespectful to Bush, and anyone who holds the presidency should be treated with the utmost respect.
She also said she was a proud American, and expressed that she wanted to see all other options exhausted before the lives of Iraqi children and American soldiers are lost in an attack.

Since the comment, several radio stations across the United States have boycotted the Chicks' music, some have held fan rallies to destroy the group's CDs and merchandise, and fellow country artists like Travis Tritt have gone on the record against them.
When the Chicks return to the United States in May, it sounds as though Maines won't be making any public apologies at the group's concerts, either.
"If she goes on the microphone and apologizes, they'll say she doesn't sound contrite enough," Renshaw told Radio and Records.
Maines' first public test of resilience will come May 1 when the group opens its North American tour leg in South Carolina. The state House in South Carolina recently passed a resolution requesting that the Dixie Chicks apologize directly to South Carolinians. The resolution also requests that the trio play a free concert for troops and military families in the state.
In the meantime, Greenville, S.C., radio host Mike Gallagher said he's "75 percent of the way there" in booking Charlie Daniels to perform in an alternative concert to the Chicks' performance May 1, according to Radio and Records.
Gallagher has a wish list of other big-name performers for the alternative concert, including Tritt and Toby Keith. If the concert flies, Gallagher said all of the proceeds will help provide food and personal care items to the families of military personnel.
In addition, Gallagher is holding a block of free VIP seats and a backstage reception for Dixie Chicks ticket-holders, because he says the Chicks' promoters are not offering refunds.
Reacting to Gallagher's plans, Renshaw said, "It will be fantastic to see who he gets to play. If he thinks there should be a counter-show, I wish him good luck."
Through all the controversy, at least one high-profile celebrity is speaking out in the Dixie Chicks' defense. In his controversial speech shaming Bush at the Oscars Sunday night, documentary filmmaker Michael Moore said, "Any time you have the pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up!"

I agree, speak your mind.
If I was Ms. Maines I would have thought twice before speaking.
The first thought I had, "Little Twit, married to an Iranian", now she feels like she so powerful, we should all be interested in her opinion.
Well, she can fall hard and I hope she does.
At a time when we are going to war, she should keep her mouth shut, especially since she is the wife of an Iranian.
He may be OK, but it would take a lot of high pressure convincing to convince me she wasn't pandering to a group that resents us.

They should just fire her and replace her with someone else. Yep, that'd be what I'd recommend. I heard Charlie Daniels in an interview being asked about the controversay and all he'd say is, "Well, I know those girls." As if to say, he's not going to diss them for Natalie saying something really stupid.
I know how hard the sisters worked to get their music in front of a national audience. Since the age of five they have been learning those instruments. They are unbelievably good. And they are highly respected among musicians. No one plays their instruments for them at any time, when doing session work, putting together an albumn or when they are on tour.
It is a dang shame. Maybe they should've hired someone to take a good reading of their audience. Seventy percent are bonafide Freeper material.

C'mon, we don't want them up here in Minnesota, either! I should have said "Dumbf*ck, Idaho," but then the THEY would be all upset, too. OK, how about a Howard Omar's in Jordan?

It's been weighing on my mind...just who does this fat troll in the Dixie Chicks look like?
Then it hit me...look at the middle top pic...
Now tell me she isn't Udo Dirkschneider from Accept/Udo?!?!
At minimum, they are both fat trolls...

Well, at least they've now acquired an organic, so to speak, name for their upcoming tour: The Dixie Chicks Final Farewell Tour!

the "contrite" word and the "vrwc" allegations have already spewed from renshaw's big dumb mouth. Clintonizing maines is the stupidest thing he can do.
dude, the people that bought the clinton lines live in georgetown, manhattan and malibu--the heartland thought he was full of it. renshaw doesn't know who buys their records-he should be canned for that alone!!

It's real simple. She should resign. The group replaces her and gets on with their music.
To: ModernDayCato
Sorry, but the way that post was written it sounded like I was an attack dog. :)
To: fabriclady
Absolutely. They can mouth off, so can we. Did not know who maines was married to.

Well, let's hope the other two drop her and press on with their music and continue doing good things for kids. Natalie Maines is NOT the only lead singer in the world. There ARE others!

Perhaps we are just tired of 'brave' people taking pot shots, while they are on foreign soil, at our president and country. Actions and words have consequences and she now knows what those consequences are.

I heard Toby Keith say that Natalie is known for badmouthing others, including him for his song. She can say she is sorry all day long, but we are not stupid enough to think she is sincere. She is just sorry for the reaction to her comments, not that she said them.

The stupid anti-USA b!tch, pretending to be a CW celebrity, challenged her entire fan base.
Several times, prior to this latest debacle.
The answer, from the USA is: Go straight to hell, and do not collect $200.00 on your way out.
I have attended rock concerts, ballet, and opera.I even spent several hundreds of dollars to enjoy "Cats".Granted, that was an an employer paid reward perk.I loved it and am cognizant of the cost.We dressed for it.
I was astounded that a co-worker had dicovered Toby Keiths signature song only this week.
It is odd to me that southern dwellers have no idea of the songs written by their neighbors.HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN?
If you dont get the rage, may I offer an alternative "fer instance" example?
The Rolling Stones vote Republican.
To: cubreporter
Maines husband was born in US, his parents are from Iran.
To: fabriclady
Maines is toast.
I dont care who her husband is or where he is from.Strawmen burn in the bright sunlight.
CW fans are not into PC crap.
BROUGHT TO YOU COURTESY, OF THE RED, RIGHT AND BLUE.
To: hispanarepublicana
You know, the fact that so many people are pissed at her only underscores how popular she was to begin with. I have never heard any of their music, but judging by people's reactions I have to assume that the majority of those who are turning on her are (were) her fans.
