Today's FEEBLE attempt at humor:

What's the shortest book ever written?
French War Heroes.

From Texas,USA I read this on the back of a public restroom door. "Here I
sit with my buns a'clenchin, giving birth to another Frenchman.

Rumor has it that those French tanks have 6 gears, 5 reverse and 1 forward.
Just in case they're attacked from behind, that's where the forward gear
comes in handy.... :)

How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris?
No one Knows. It's never been tried!]

What color is the American flag? Red, White, and Blue.
What color is the British flag? Red, White, and Blue.
What color is the French flag? White.

What did the Mayor of Paris say to the German Army as they entered during
WWII?
"Table for One Hundred Thousand?".

Why don't they have fireworks at Euro Disney?
Because every time they shoot them off, the French try to surrender.

Why did the French plant trees along the Champs Elysees?
So the Germans could march in the shade.

What is the first thing the French Army teaches at basic training?
How to surrender in at least 10 languages.

What is the most useful thing in the French Army?
A rearview mirror, so they can see the war.

Why does Nike like the French Army?
Because, in war time, they are the biggest buyers of running shoes.

Why did the French celebrate their World Cup Championship in 2000 so wildly?
It was their first time they won anything without the help of the U.S.

Wednesday's weird warship, the french navy's Hoche

Hoche class predreadnought battleship
Displacement. 11000 t.
Lenght. 337'
Beam. 69.5'
Draft. 29.25'
Speed. 15.9 k.
Complement. 611
Armament. 2 13.4"; 2 10.8"; 15 5.5"; 4 9pdr; 12 3pdr; 5 17.7" tt.

Laid down in 1881 and completed in 1889. The Hoche class represented the worst in French shipbuilding. Several redesigns led to long building times. They were well armored, but most of the plating was below the waterline. The ships were topheavy and unstable, and their luxurious accommodation led them to be know as 'Le Grand Hotels'.

Dear Lord,

There's a young man far from home,
called to serve his nation in time of war;
sent to defend our freedom
on some distant foreign shore.

We pray You keep him safe,
we pray You keep him strong,
we pray You send him safely home ...
for he's been away so long.

There's a young woman far from home,
serving her nation with pride.
Her step is strong, her step is sure,
there is courage in every stride.
We pray You keep her safe,
we pray You keep her strong,
we pray You send her safely home ...
for she's been away too long.

Bless those who await their safe return.
Bless those who mourn the lost.
Bless those who serve this country well,
no matter what the cost.

Author Unknown

.

FReepers from the USO Canteen, The Foxhole, and The Poetry Branch
join in prayer for all those serving their country at this time.

I received an e-mail from radu.
She's still having computer problems.
She can get e-mail, but that's all for now.
She's staying in touch with her military pen pals for now.
radu misses us All and says Hi.

MORNING EVERYONE!!!

I have to tell you all, our service men and women are the BEST...I had sent that letter I wrote to a few of my friends that are in the service....and I received the following response by one of the officers I know in the Airforce:

Cherry-Berry, Those beloved protesters and their right to voice their opinions, and gain media attention while doing so, are part of the reason I serve - that's a constitutional right I hold very dear. So, regardless of what they're for or against, I'm proud they raise their voices in that true right of democracy. I value them all and find equal, though different, support and encouragement from both pro- and anti-war demonstrators. So, while I have no desire to sway your opinions one way or another on the war, I do encourage you to take a more positive take on those who speak out against your views - they're Americans and are exercising the rights that I so fervently defend; I'd hate to see those rights go without use.

Wow....I don't know how they do it. And this is an officer that works in research, he sees the terrible things that chemical weapons can do, etc. I'm speechless! My only response to him was that I disagree with their methods. What else could I say....GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!!

With a feeling of great unease, slowly I creep into the room. A sudden noise...an evil laugh...a shadow moves!
Quickly open the package....and run screaming into the sunlight.

Hey Canteen crew!

A few questions for ya. I'm coordinating a care package program at work, and want to know a few things:

1. how each box should be addressed
2. should it be left unsealed
3. where to ship them (can we bring them to a local Natl. Guard Armory?)

Please freepmail me if you know the answers! Thanks!

WANDA AND MAX: THE SENATOR'S WIFE SAYS HUSSEIN IS AN OK PREXY

Mrs. Max (Wanda) Maucus, wife of Montana Senator, according to THE
WASHINGTON POST, says the following, it being appalling. She was asked if
she ever thought of terrorism set loose in the USA. Her answer: "I never
think about it."

She, an educator who has taught at Harvard, never thinks about it. Talk
about denial big time, coming no less from a supposedly educated woman.
Very sad indeed. . .and not that commendable for an individual who steers
others in classrooms, supposedly teaching them to think deeply about life
issues.

Yet that's just the start. There's more-worse: "I don't think we have any
business being in a preemptive war against Iraq. Any time you drop bombs,
there are going to be a lot of innocent people hurt. A billion Muslims all
over the world are in pain to see their brothers losing their homes and
their families losing the stability of their civilization."

Say, Ms. Maucus, what about the billion Muslims plus non-Muslims all over
the world who have been in long-duration pain due to Saddam cutting off
innocent women's heads in the marketplace, let alone his killing his own
people, and much more that has already been taken in with angst by persons
in thought.

She added: "Baghdad is where the beginning of civilization occurred,
literally where the wheel was invented, where the very first city was
built, where writing began, and it has a very deep and profoundly beautiful
history-which we should never take lightly, no matter who the existing
president is."

Ah, so that's it. Wanda's hubris is showing obviously. It is not so subtle
intelligentsia snobbery. She, an anthropologist (big deal!), now moves into
her own discipline of study by which to spout loony tunes about the war and
Hussein the Horrible and a nation held prisoner for years upon years and so
forth. Mix that with tablets of antiquity, markings in underground
this-n-that, vases from the centuries long dusted and other such museum
pieces for ahh-ing and oohh-ing.

But back to politics and world health: Even if it's Saddam who is "the
existing president", she was asked? "I think he is very proud of the
history of his country. I think it's we Americans who don't know the facts
about what anthropologists call 'the cradle of civilization.' When we watch
the bombing on television, we really don't seem to understand or appreciate
that some of these places are sacred. . . . I disagree with those who say
that Saddam Hussein doesn't think about this. He cares about these places
and their people."

This woman has truly lost it. So anthropological digs and findings come
ahead of the human beings tortured. And Saddam is a mortal who has an
aesthetic appreciation for matters historical, e.g., anthropological
discoveries and art treasures of the past. Again, this woman has truly lost
it.

She continued: "I don't think American lives are threatened by him. There
is no evidence of weapons of mass destruction and we have no right to make
a preemptive strike on another country and try to assassinate its leader.
We have no right legally or morally. We are way out of line."

President George W. Bush is legally and morally "out of line" while Hussein
the Horrible is right in there with the morally clean and legally upright.
So housewife anthropologist professor has hoisted a peace sign in her
window at the house. It is the same house where 62-year-old husband and
five-term senator lives, he having stated that he "believes strongly that
Saddam Hussein and his regime must be disarmed and removed from power."

In this latest interchange between Wanda and media, Senator Max held his
ground. He continues to endorse the President and troops and "is praying
for a quick end to the conflict in Iraq," said his chief of staff.

NO RIFT . . . BLAIR AND BUSH TEAM OKAY

With polls increasing markedly in US and Britain favorably for Bush and Blair in the last week regarding the Iraqi conflict, it is hardly believable that a huge rift is to rip between the two.

Yet the media has a tendency to make the public believe that a big time fallout is just around the corner. So much for an alarmist / liberal media that delights more in pointing to rifts than unity.

US has gone on record as building in Iraq a civilian team for the postIraq war. This will effectively by-pass the UN, understandably so since the UN has not been exactly a most cooperative partner with the US.

With Prime Minister Tony Blair visiting President George W. Bush in Washington, the two men will surely iron out fine line detail regarding the postIraq war. And their iron, though hot for pressing out the creases, will undoubtedly come smooth in the fabric. Neither can afford to wrinkle relationships, considering what they have labored for since the war’s outset.

THE TIMES reports that Blair is hiding “contrasting priorities over the role of the United Nations in post-conflict Iraq. . .” So how can these contrasts be deciphered as large and “looming” from the exceptional finesse by which Blair has made his statements from Downing Street lately? Yet the press presses on with same.

The media did admit that at his residence “you would think that all is harmony and concord.” Then why not leave that harmony and concord in place? Because the media would like there to be a disagreement between the two regarding humanitarian relief delivered to the Iraqi people, such relief perchance going through UN channels.

The US has let it be known that such channels can indeed be utilized but only if they would not interfere with a civilian team already being put in place in Kuwait for use in Iraq. So now, what’s the big rift?

Of course, if UN input is liable to the Security Council stamp, much groundwork would have to be laid to satisfy the US agenda, understandably so.

Finally, concerning Bush-Blair relations, if there were a slight wrinkle in the ironing, one can be sure that the ingenuity of both men would work toward a continued coordinated course as in weeks past. Neither is going to gamble on a major disagreement at this crucial point, especially considering the French and German lack of cooperation “looming” still.

Ok, stupid question time. I bet you guys have already addressed this, but I am rather slow today, so I'll ask anyway.

Is there some service that provides penpals/email pals for our overseas servicemen/servicewomen? I know there has to be some of our heroes over there that do not have anyone back at home to write to them or let them know that they are appreciated, personally. It breaks my heart to think that someone is getting a letter from back home and someone is not. So, what can I do to make one soldier's day a bit brighter???

I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of one plan for peace.
"Books, not Bombs" won't work. The head mullahs won't let anyone read them. If they do, they poke their eyes out.

Here's the plan:

1) The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini and the rest of them 'good old boys'. We will never "interfere" again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No more sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them.

4) All ! future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself, don't hide here. Asylum would not ever be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers.

5) No "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" and it's back home baby.

6) The US will make a strong effort to become self sufficient energy wise. This will include developing non polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else.

8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere". They can pray to Allah or whomever, for see! ds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides' most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if any anyway.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an island some place. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, it would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer.

Now, ain't that a winner of a plan
